Introduction
National Institute of Science & Technology

 What is Heat Conduction?

 Mechanism of heat conduction

- Energy transfer due to random motion of free electrons and vibrations

of molecules in their lattice in solids.

- Energy transfer due to collision and diffusion of the molecules during

their random motion in liquids and gas.

 Law governing the heat conduction

dT
𝑄𝑥ሶ = −𝐾𝐴𝑥 ∗
dx

Fourier’s law of heat conduction

 This study includes

- Understanding of 1-D steady state heat flow.

- Analyzing and comparing the temperature profile of steady state heat

flow for numerical and analytical solution under various conditions.

Conclusion
National Institute of Science & Technology

From this study,

• Its been observed that solutions obtained by using numerical method are
sufficiently accurate with analytical solution.

• In practical the complicated geometry becomes unfeasible to solve using

analytical solution, which can be easily solved using numerical solution.
