• Definition : a glider is a heavier-than-
air aircraft that is supported in flight
by the dynamic reaction of the air
against its lifting surfaces
• Most glider do not have an engine
Introduction • Some have small engine to extend
of glider flight time and some have big
enough engine to perform self take-

• The first successful glider was built by George
Cayley in 1853. It carried his terrified servant
on a short flight across a small valley before
crash-landing
• Otto Lilienthal was the first to make repeated
successful flights (eventually total over 2,000)
