Promotion Act of 2009
RATIONALE:
 Breastfeeding has distinct advantages which
benefit
- the infant and the mother
- hospital and the country that adopts the practice

 Breastfeeding is the first preventive health


measure given to a child at birth.

 Enhances mother-infant relationship.


 Could save the country valuable foreign
exchange used for milk importation.

 Breastmilk as the best food for infants/young


children.
EMPLOYMENT RELATED PROVISIONS OF
RA 10028

General Rule: establishments are required to


1. Come up with workplace policy on
breastfeeding
2. Set up lactation stations
3. Allow lactation periods
4. Comply with the Milk Code
5. Provide breastfeeding information to its
employees
WORKPLACE POLICY

In compliance to RA 10028, the Company


has developed 2 policies:

1. Policy
for Supporting Breastfeeding
Employees
2. Mother-Friendly Workplace Employee
Guidelines
POLICY FOR SUPPORTING BREASTFEEDING EMPLOYEES
Company Responsibilities:
1. Milk
Expression Breaks – during normal breaks
or meal times. For times needed beyond regular
breaks, the employee may use personal leaves
or make up the time as negotiated with
supervisors
2. Placeof Expression – in lactation rooms or in
the privacy of their own office. Expressed milk
may be stored in designated refrigerators inside
the lactation rooms.
3. Lactation Period – In addition to regular break and meal
time, the breastfeeding employee shall be entitled to a
total of 40 minutes lactation period for every eight hour
working period.

4. Education – the HR Department shall provide programs


and seminars to educate all mothers and fathers,
including incoming or future mothers and fathers.

5. StaffSupport – Supervisors shall inform pregnant and


breastfeeding employees about the company’s worksite
lactation support program.
POLICY FOR SUPPORTING BREASTFEEDING EMPLOYEES

Employee Responsibilities:
1. Communication with Supervisors – employees
must inform their supervisors if they wish to
express milk during work hours
2. Maintenance
of Milk Expression Areas-
employees must keep lactation rooms clean
3. BreastfeedingEquipment – bring your own
electric or manual breast pump
4. Milk Storage – properly label your expressed milk
to avoid confusion

5. Use of Break times to Express Milk – employees


may use the sign-in log in the lactation room to
negotiate milk expression times that are most
convenient for all breastfeeding employees.
Mother-Friendly Workplace Employee
Guidelines
1. Contact the Human Resources Personnel/Lactation Station
Administrator on how to sign up to use the nursing mother’s room
and how to reserve a scheduled time to use the room.
2. The Company does not provide a pump for the nursing moms, it’s
for personal use and the mothers must provide their own pump.
3. Your personal pump kits may be stored in the nursing mothers’
room provided they are stored in a sealed container or zip lock
bag labeled with your name.
4. Your pumping equipment should be rinsed well after each use. It is
recommended that you rinse the pumping equipment first in cold
water and then wash with hot soapy water and rinse well on a
daily basis to avoid contamination.
5. Good hand washing before and after pumping is essential to
prevent contamination of your milk, your pumping equipment
and the environment
6. The Company provides a refrigerator for storing your milk,
be sure to take home your milk each and every day. It is best
to transport your milk from work to home in a cooler as well
7. Each woman using the room is responsible for cleaning up
after use of the room.
8. It is best to document room usage by signing usage log each
time you use the room.
9. Notify HR or Lactation Station Administrator if you have any
problems or if supplies are unavailable.
