TRADITIONAL GRAVITY
BASED STORAGE SYSTEM
 Traditionally most multi storied buildings have a storage
tank on the top. Pumps are installed at the bottom of the
building which push the water at overhead tank. The
pumps are run for few hours a day to ensure that the water
is adequate in overhead tank. If right size of pump is used
for a given load the pumps can run close to the best
efficiency point during the time of operation. The
distribution of water from the overhead tank to the houses
happen through gravity or weight of water and there is no
electricity required the same.
DISADVANTAGE OF TRADITIONAL OR
GRAVITY STORAGE SYSTEM

 This requires a heavy water tank on the top of

the building.
 In this method the pressure of water is depend
upon the height from the tank so that on ground
floor the water comes with high pressure and on
the top floor the water comes with low pressure.
 It leads to the bursting of pipes due to uneven
pressure of water.
NEED OF PNEUMATIC PUMP SYSTEM FOR
HIGH RISE BUILDING

Water pressure is one of the major problem in domestic , agriculture and

industrial sector. For boosting pressure in houses , high-rise buildings and all the
purposes hydro pneumatic pumps are used. Maintaining a set pressure level ,
these pumps are highly energy efficient.
The main function of hydro pneumatic pump is to manage inadequate
supply pressure to a higher consistent valve so that a non stop water supply is
made available. The hydro pneumatic pumps are designed with single or multiple
pumps to provide constant water pressure and it consists of a pressure vessel
manufactured by most up to date technology.
Hydro pneumatic system is designed to deliver water continuously at
all outlets in all floors of high rise apartments and commercial building with
uniform pressure. This system is most ideal for high rise apartments and buildings
where the demand of the water is variable which requires pressurized water for
the functioning of the fittings.
A hydro-pneumatic pump system has a ground level storage
tank instead of an overhead storage tank. Pressure sensors are installed
at various parts of the plumbing in the building that makes sure that
there is a constant pressure of water everywhere. Whenever the sensor
senses that the pressure is low , the pump close to the ground level
storage tank starts and pushes the water up to the level where it is
required. It maintains the same pressure everywhere.
The hydro-pneumatic pumps have easy operation. The hydro-
pneumatic water system ensure a continuous flow of high pressure
water to all the floors of residential complex , high rise buildings ,
apartments , offices and maintains a balanced pressure that is preset in
the pump.
COMPONENTS OF HYDRO-PNEUMATIC
PUMP
The pressure vessel of the pump contains water with
pressurized air space to provide pressure to the plumbing system. The
water gushes out from the pressure vessel with water demand which
leads to an increase in air space and decrease in pressure. When the
pressure is lower the pump starts. At this point , the air space reduces
and pressure rises. When the upper level of pressure is achieved , the
pump stops.
Hydro-pneumatic system consist of 2 to 6 high pressure
multistage centrifugal pump sets , suction and delivery manifolds with
valves , base frame and control panel. The system is pre-assembled ,
tasted in factory and ready for installation on site. The control panel
controls the number of pump set to adjust the pressure rate.
APPLICATION OF HYDRO-PNEUMATIC PUMP

 These pumps have a diverse range of applications and are

used to boost the pressure in many sectors mentioned as
follows :-
 Pressure boosting of clear water in high rise apartments ,
high rise commercial buildings and row houses in housing
project.
 Pressured water supply in hostels and hospitals.
 Sprinkler irrigation of golf coerces , sport fields and large
farms.
HOW THE SYSTEM IS USED FOR HIGH RISE
BUILDING

 In a very tall building the floors should be

divided into zones of perhaps 15 to 20 floors.
Each of these will have its own plumbing system.
This serves to eliminate the very high pressure
that results from high water heads and also
reduces the pipe and pump sizes. Remember that
centralized hot water boilers are placed at the
bottom as hot water rises by itself.
PIPES USED FOR WATER DISTRIBUTION

 The range of choices for the distribution networks

of pipes GI , PVC ,Chlorinated PVC , HDPE (high
density polyethylene and copper). Now a days
plastic (PVC , HDPE ) pipes are proffered to
other because they do not rust , are light and
easy to install also they are inexpensive.
ADVANTAGES OF HYDRO-PNEUMATIC PUMP
SYSTEM

 They eliminate the need of heavy water tanks on

the top of building as the water is stored at
ground level.
 This method gives uniform distribution of water
to all floors.
 The water is supplied with constant pressure at
every floor of the building.
 It avoids the bursting of pipes.
DISADVANTAGE OF HYDRO-PNEUMATIC
PUMP SYSTEM

 The electricity consumption is very high.

 Extra energy is also required to achieve constant
pressure across the building.
 This system will not work properly at the places
where frequent power cuts.
 This system is too expensive.
