BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

•Extracurricular activities are found in all levels of our schools


in many different forms. They can be sports, clubs, debate, drama,
school publications, student council, governance, student newspaper,
music, art, and other social events. A student’s future can be
determined in the things that they doing the hours after school and
before their parents get home.
•Lunenburg states that Extra-curricular activities serve the
same goals and functions as the required and elective courses in the
curriculum. However, they provide experiences that are not included
in formal courses of study. It allows students to apply the knowledge
that they have learned in other classes and acquire concepts of
democratic life. Extracurricular activities have many positive effects
on education.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aims to find out the Grade 6 Pupil’s Involvement


in Extra-Curricular Activities its Association to Academic
Performance of Lutayan District II School Year 2019-2020.

choice of extra-curricular activities

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study enables the


performing students to improve
their academic performance
through joining different
performing groups specifically
the Sports and the Scouting.
Methodology
Research Design
This study uses the descriptive-correlation method of research. It describes the Involvement of the
Grade 6 pupils in Extra-curricular activities. This is correlated to the academic performance of pupils.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

The major instrument of this study will be the


survey questionnaires. The first questionnaire is on
the involvement of the grade 6 pupils in extra-
curricular activities:
a. Sports
b.Scouting

The second questionnaire is on the


academic performance:
a. Improve grade point average
b.Higher education aspiration
c.Increase attendance
d.Reduce absenteeism
Data Gathering Procedure
The researcher sent a letter of request to the Schools
Division Superintendent of Sultan Kudarat to allow her to
conduct the study in four selected public elementary schools of
Lutayan District II. When approval is granted, she coordinates
with the respective principals of the schools covered in the study
as to the schedule of administration of questionnaire. When
schedule is set, she personally administers the questionnaire
among the grade 6 pupils of each school. The pupils were gather
in a conducive area in the school. She explains the objectives of
the study and give ample time to the pupils to answer the
questionnaire. Retrieval of the instrument follow as soon as the
respondents were done answering the items on the
questionnaire.
Data were collected, tabulated and submitted to a
statistician for data analysis and interpretation.

Statistical Treatment
Descriptive statistics is use to analyse and interpret the data in
the study.
To describe the involvement of the grade 6 pupils in extra-
curricular activities, percentage and mean is use.
To determine the academic performance of grade 6 pupils.
