INTRODUCTION

 The process of placing the satellite in a proper orbit is known as launching process
 The satellite is launched in the space with the help of launch vehicle. It is used so that
satellite will cross the earth's atmosphere as well as gravitational pull
 Navigation and guidance of the launch vehicle are important so that satellite can
attain needed altitude, orbit path and essential kinematics requirements
OVERVIEW OF SATELLITE COMMUNICATION
 communication between any two
earth stations through a satellite is
called as satellite communication
 In this, electromagnetic waves are
used as carrier signals
 Satellite mainly consists of
transponder
 Earth stations send the information to
satellites in the form of high powered,
high frequency (GHz range) signals
How rocket works?
SATELLITE LAUNCH VEHICLE

 The rocket that is used to launch a satellite is called a satellite

launch vehicle
 Two types of launch vehicles
a. Expendable Launch Vehicles (ELV)
b. Reusable Launch Vehicles (RLV)
 Indian launch vehicles
a. PSLV
b. GSLV
EXPENDABLE LAUNCH VEHICLE[ELV]
It is used only once
The ELV contains three stages. First and second stages of ELV raise the
satellite to an about 50 miles and 100 miles
Third stage of ELV places the satellite in transfer orbit
 The task of ELV will be completed and its spare parts will be fallen to
earth, when the satellite reached to transfer orbit

REUSABLE LAUNCH VEHICLE[RLV]

 A RLV capable of launching a payload into space more than once

 Not a completely reusable launch vehicle
 Reusable parts are:
a. Space shuttle main engine
b. Two solid rocket boosters
Contd..
METHODOLOGY
launching satellites into LEO&MEO:
Launching satellites into GEO

Three steps:
 Launched to a LEO orbit using a
rocket with 1 or more stages
 the last rocket stage puts it in an orbit
that takes it from the LEO orbit to the
GEO orbit known as the
Geostationary Transfer Orbit (GTO)
 The last step would be to drift in the
GEO ring until the right position is
reached where the satellite would
adjust its speed to remain in the
position
How rocket returns to earth?

 Only reusable rockets come back to earth

 Spacecraft do not come back to earth as whole
 Returns in vehicle called capsules
 Slowdown the spacecraft below its orbital speed
 Gravitational pull
CONCLUSION:

 Satellite launching process involves mainly four stages

 satellite launching needs full-fledged equipment
 Everything should work properly
