ELEMENTS OF ART
When a piece of art is created, you see the different elements
of art applied. You see different colors of various tones applied.
Different shapes are used to form an object. These elements are
applied even when using new technologies.

COLORS and TONES

Colors make a drawing or painting attractive and beautiful.
But using a single color may not be very pleasing.
Blending several colors to form a new color makes the artwork
more attractive.
Blending colors may be done manually. There are also
computer programs that allow you to blend color easily.
SHAPES
If you look around, many objects are formed from different
shapes. Even those that you think have no regular shapes are
formed from a shape. New artists learn how to draw by using
shapes first. Look at the figures below:

Whenever you create

a design, all the elements
and principles of art are
applied. Whether you do
it manually or with the
help of a computer
program.
What is Printmaking
Printmaking is the process of creating art by transferring an
image or design from a source onto another material. Prints are
made from a single original plate or surface called “matrix.”
Matrix can be a metal plate, stone wood blocks, linoleum,
fabric, and others. Whatever material or process is used in
printmaking, the purpose is to make an artwork that can be
reproduced many times.
There are four processes in printmaking:

1. Relief Printing – the raised areas

hold ink.
2. Intaglio Printing – the incised
areas hold ink.

3. Lithography – the image

area holds ink.
The non-image area
repels ink.

4. Screenprinting – ink passes

through areas of screen
that are not blocked.
What is silkscreen printing?
Silkscreen printing is one of the methods in printmaking. It uses
a stencil to apply ink onto another material. It can be on fabric
or t-shirts. It can be on paper, wood, vinyl, or any other material
that absorbs ink.
Now, with new tools, printing of designs had become faster
and easier. These design can be printed on t-shirts and posters.
Even if digital technology has made printing faster, the design
principles like the contrast of colors, shapes, and lines should
produce harmony just like hand printing.
Using technology, printing of original designs has been made
easier and faster.

The creation of the design, using computer program is easier. The

production is even made faster with the silkscreen printing machine.
This allows the printing of several colors on a t-shirt.
What do you need in silkscreen printing?

1. Design printed on transparency - - >

2. Mesh Screen - - >

3. Liquid Emulsion - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - >

4. Squeegee - - - - - - - >

5. Fabric Paint - - - - - - - - - - - - - >

How is silkscreen printing done?

1. Prepare a design and print on transparency.

2. Prepare the mesh screen. Coat it with light sensitive emulsion.
3. Position the printed film over the screen and expose it to a very
bright light source.
4. Rinse off the excess emulsion. Once you have all the screens
exposed and cleaned, you are ready to print.
5. Place screen over t-shirt. Apply ink, any color of your choice,
using a squeegee.
6. Using a blow dryer, dry ink on t-shirt. You now have a finished
product.
What is PHOTOGRAPHY?
Photography comes from the two Greek words: photo and
graph. Photo means light and graph means drawing. As image
or picture is created by means of light, that’s why this is also
referred to as “drawing with light.”

What are the principles applied in photography?

1. Contrast as a principle of art may be shown using
complementary colors or emphasizing differences using light
and dark colors.

2. Emphasis is a principle of art in which part of the work stand

out, in order to draw the viewer’s eye there first.
3. Harmony is a consistent, orderly, or pleasing arrangement of
parts.
4. Unity is taking the parts of a piece of art and unifying them into
something better as a whole.
5. Balance is arranging the elements in a piece so that there is
an equality from one side to the other.
6. Pattern or rhythm is simply repeating an element that will
cause the viewer’s eye to move around to each element.
Types of Camera:
a. Phone Camera – with the growth of technology, taking
pictures had become easy and handy. Mobile phones now
are equipped with a camera.
b. Point-and-shoot camera – it is made for easy use. Also called
as a compact camera.
