IMAGEnet R4 – Overview

• IMAGEnet R4 is a completely renovated version of


the IMAGEnet Imaging System that made Topcon the
leader in ophthalmic imaging

• In this course we will learn about the


functioning of IMAGEnet R4 from the users’
standpoint.

• It comprises a number of advancements that


add flexibility to its use and makes the
capture of ophthalmic images more intuitive,
faster and easier than ever before.

• The re-designed
screen can be
customized to
place information

windows in different
configurations for
operator’s

recognition changes
the capture window
and the capture sensor
configuration
depending on the
mode selected in the
capture device.

No further adjustment is required from the operator

feature. This function

• A new function, the
“Binder” allows
grouping selected
images or studies for
different purposes and
keeps them easily
available without
searching into the
patient’s files.
This is particularly useful when preparing lectures, referring a
consultation or preparing a comprehensive report.

Registering a patient
• In order to capture an image you must first register the
patient
• In the main R4 window, select “Patient” and then,
“Register Patient”

The registration chart
has three tabs:
• Patient
• Physician
• Diagnosis

Physician registration
• This function allows
entering the name of the
doctor who is treating
the patient or the doctor
who referred the patient.
–It has to be addressed
in configuration-

Diagnosis
• To enter a diagnosis, click on
“Diagnosis List” and annotate
the information on the
pertinent fields.
• Click on “Register” and the
diagnosis will be annotated
on the patient’s folder.

Capturing Images
• Select the patient from
the patient list
• Select the desired
capture device in the
Exam list
• Select the proper knob
configuration for the
study in the retinal
camera

• The system
automatically will set the
flash intensity
recommended for the
test and label the
images accordingly. The
flash intensity can be
further adjusted
manually if needed

• The capture screen will


clearly display the patient’s
name, the procedure,
quantity of images
captured and if timer is in
use, the elapsed time.

Several capture windows can be opened and toggled by clicking on


the respective name on the Capture Session List
IMAGEnet R4 – Saving Images

Saving Images to Database


Unlike IMAGEnet 2000, R4 does not
have a selection of hard disk and
archive disk.
All images are saved in the main
database without the array division
used before.
In the R4 configuration selections can be
made to allow for data editing, format
and folder size

Retrieving Images
• To retrieve images go
to Patient in the
toolbar and click on
Select Patient, or
click on the Select
Patient icon in the
task bar on the left

• Double click on the patient’s folder and the


patient’s name will be displayed in the upper left
angle of the screen.

• Double clicking on the procedure
will bring the images to the
screen.
• The first image will be displayed
in a large window while all the
other images will be displayed as
thumbnails below on a
continuous cue.
• Different procedures on the
same test will be grouped by
date
• A number of icons below the
main image allow for different
enhancements

• Images can be grouped in two, four, nine and sixteen ups by selecting
the images and then clicking on the corresponding group icon.

the thumbnail images
below the main image
a number of shortcuts
options can be easily
selected saving time
in the managing of
the choices:

• Send to binder panel:


Sends a copy of the
image to the binder,
which is a separate
location to keep
selected images
IMAGEnet R4 – Image Management

Send to 2, 4, 9 or 16 up:

Sends a copy of the image


to the selected group.
The groups can be
made of images
selected all at once or
one by one.

• Send to compare view: Displays the image in the compare mode. A
second image can then be selected by clicking on the procedure tab
and both images can be synchronized by selecting a minimum of
three common points. All measurements performed on one image
will be displayed on the other.

The results can


be saved as an
individual
image.

• Copy to clipboard:
Copies the image to use
with another program
such as a presentation,
report, etc.

Enhancing
• The enhancing features
under the “Image” section
of the toolbar are similar
to the ones in IMAGEnet
2000

Tools
• A number of tasks can
be performed selecting
the Tool section
IMAGEnet R4 – Image Management
• Edit Data: Allows for editing information on patient images
• Delete Data: Allows to eliminate data from a patient’s record or to
delete the patient completely
• Move Data: Permits transferring images from a patient’s file to
another. Useful in case images are saved in the wrong patient’s
file

Auto Mosaic:
Automatically
creates a
composite
image from
several different
angles of
capture

• Quick 2up viewer: Quickly displays two selected images side by
side for comparison. Images can be zoomed in and out
synchronically

• Quick Draw: Allows for annotation and drawing on the selected


image

• RGB channels:
Dissects image
in its red, green
and blue
components.

• As in IMAGEnet
2000 the loupe
function is
available

Stereo Analyzer: Performs the standard functions of the stereo
analyzer of IMAGEnet 2000
