SPECIFICATIONS OF THE
INJECTION MOULDING
MACHINE
DESMA-400
v
DIFFERENT PROCESSES INVOVED IN THE
MACHINE
1) MOULD CLOSING : The rack which consists of the mould goes inside the machine
and safety door comes down. After the mould is closed, a clamping pressure is
developed inside the machine.
TIME TAKEN : - 10 to 15 sec
2) PLASTICIZING : The raw material which is rubber (EPDM) is taken to the injection
piston. Before injecting it to the injection piston, the rubber is melted .
TIME TAKEN : 35-45 sec.
5) CURING : In this process rubber gets tough or hardened by maintaing a low temperature
TIME TAKEN : 170 to 190 sec
7) EXTRACTION : The rack containing finish product comes out by manual push and pull. The
final product is also extracted by labour from the mould in this process.
TIME TAKEN : 35 to 40 sec.
SLIDING TRAY
FINAL PRODUCT - DUST COVER
TRIALS FOR MANUALLY MOVING THE TRAY IN & OUT
As, it is written in the problem statement that the tray containing mould which
is to be moved in and out is done manually. The weight of the tray is
approximately 600 kgs. Due to this , a large force is to be applied by the
operator ( 2 in nos. at one time) and the time taken by them in pushing and
pulling is also more i.e. around 8-11 seconds. Also , there are chances of an
injury occuring to operator.
ADVANTAGES OF AUTOMATIC SLIDING RACK
• Due to this , the time taken for the sliding rack to move in and out will
be around 2-3 seconds , hence saving almost 6-7 seconds in one cycle.
• This will help to increase the overall productivity of the machine. Also ,
the chances of getting an injury will be reduced .
• Since two labours are required to push and pull the tray at a time ,
hence , after intalling the automatic sliding rack , only 1 labour will be
required which would result in saving labour cost .
