ANALYSIS OF IRRIGATION

SYSTEM OF PUROK 6, EASTERN

OSIAS, KABACAN, COTABATO

REPORTERS:
DUMAGANDAR, ZULFAH M.
GARBIN, ROSELLE C.
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

Generally, this study aims to conduct the analysis of

irrigation system at Purok 6, Eastern Osias, Kabacan,
Cotabato.
SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

This study focuses only in determining the irrigation system

design and services at the selected portion of Lateral B1,
Purok 6, Eastern Osias, Kabacan, Cotabato.
PLACE AND TIME OF THE STUDY

This study was conducted during the 1st Semester of the

current school year 2019-2020 at Purok 6, Eastern Osias,
Kabacan, Cotabato.
METHODOLOGY

Data Gathering Procedure

The data acquired answered the objectives of the study. These data
include the primary data and secondary data.
The primary data is the actual irrigation system design and was acquired
from the NIA-KABRIS, Katidtuan, Kabacan, Cotabato through the help of
their Acting Chief of System, Engr. Danilo C. Saladino and forwarded to the
Region 12, NIA-Cotabato Irrigation Management Office, Amas, Kidapawan
City. These data were recorded by copying the original data from their
records. Secondary data was collected to make the research more
comprehensive and reliable. Site visit, various books, journals and using
internet sites were used as references that enhanced the study.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Method of Irrigation on the Lateral B1, Purok 6, Eastern Osias,

Kabacan Cotabato.

The method of irrigation in that selected area is the Surface

Irrigation which the water is distributed over the soil surface by
gravity flow. The irrigation water is introduced into level or
graded furrows or basins, using siphons, gated pipe, or turnout
structures, and is allowed to advance across the field.
The location was best suited for this method of irrigation since it is flat land
slopes and medium to fine textured soil types which promote the lateral
spread of water down the furrow row or across the basin.
Irrigation System Design acquired from NIA-KABRIS

The Irrigation Design includes the following:

Trapezoidal Canal Lining (Plans, Section, and Details)
Rectangular Canal Lining (Plans, Section, and Details)
Overflow Check Structure (Plan, Elevation, Sections and Details)
Prop. Check Structure with T.O.(R) (Plan, Elevation, Section and
Details)

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS

This study aims to conduct the analysis of the irrigation system at

the selected portion of the 4220.80 hectares service area of
NIA-KABRIS, the Lateral B1 Purok 6, Eastern Osias, Kabacan,
Cotabato. It was conducted during the 1st
semester of the school year 2019-2020 which serves as the basis
of the partial fulfillment of the course subject CENG ELEC 2
(Irrigation, Flood Control and Drainage Engineering).
For the irrigation fees, according to one of the farmers that
benefits in this irrigation system, recently the fees are free but
others are still paying 500 pesos per hectare every cropping in
the IA (Irrigators’ Association)
The irrigation service fee (ISF) is charged by NIA from the
beneficiaries in national systems as payment for the services
rendered in the delivery of water.

NIA is authorized to collect ISF pursuant to the following laws:

PD 1702, Section 1 paragraph B:

(b) Operating capital – All amounts collected by the National
Irrigation Administration as irrigation fees, administration
charges, drainage fees, equipment rentals, proceeds from the
sale of unserviceable equipment and materials, sale of all
reparation goods allocated to the defunct irrigation service unit
and the National Irrigation Administration, all other income shall
be added to its operating capital.
Therefore, flow of water under surface irrigation comes under
wobbly flow.
Consequently, it is very difficult to understand the hydraulics of
surface irrigation.
However, suitable and efficient surface irrigation system can be
espoused after
taking into consideration different factors which are involved in
the hydraulics of
surface irrigation.
1. Surface slope of the field
2. Roughness of the field surface
3. Depth of water to be applied
4. Length of run and time required
5. Size and shape of water-course
6. Discharge of the water-course
7. Field resistance to erosion
