DENSITY

WHAT IS DENSITY?
If you take the same volume of different substances, then
they will weigh different amounts.

Q) Which has the greatest mass and therefore the most dense?

Density is the Mass per unit Volume

Density Equation
g or kg Example:

Density = Mass Q) Liquid water has a density of

1000. kg/m3, while ice has density
Volume of 920. kg/m3.
g/cm3 or kg/m3
Calculate the volume occupied by
cm3 or m3
0.25kg of each.

V = m = 0.25 kg = 0.000250 = 2.5X10-4 m3 (2 SF)

v 1000. kg/m3

V = m = 0.25 kg = 0.000272 = 2.7X10-4 m3 (2SF)

d 920. kg/m3
