Soundscape.

– Testing out Sound Complications.

Soundscape – Image/Sound 1.

Image 1.
• Swishing, swaying pitches.
• Marine life.
• Oscillating pitches to imply possible water
movement.
• Slow and mellow vs quick and sharp.

• Took clip 1084 and cut sound from track

and placed into multi track.
• I then repeated this process again by using
‘copy to new’ with different sound from
same track. This then creating a separate
track without cutting anything from the
original clip.
Additional clip 1068 looked at removing 60Hz hum so that sound become crisper and clearer. This was done through
Adaptive Noise Reduction, DeHummer and then followed by Noise Reduction to finish cleaning up the sound recording.
Through doing this steps it bought the sound down to a reasonable volume as parts were hitting the red and yellow in the
volume levels bar; which if not altered can ruin the sound quality when exported and cause the high pitches to crackle in
the exported MP3.
I then went back and adjusted the audio volume from 1084 cut clip so that it wasn’t hitting the red spectrum of the volume
levels bar. Through doing this I found I was also able to distort the sound further to imply that of an underwater being which
I could then loop and repeat in the multitrack.

• To export I went to File> Export> Multitrack Mixdown> Entire

Session and then changed the save location and the export
format to MP3.

• Scratchy, prickly noises.
• Sharp and short.
• Varying in pitches from high to low depending on
the length of the hair like structure.
• Pitches could appear broken and mottled.
• Crackling/popping noises and the object falls
back into place.

Waveform > Effects Rack > On The Telephone. I turned off distortion layer and kept
Hard Limiter and FFT Filler on, to get a more muffle sound but still keep some of its
clarity.

1069 – Rotating metal bottle cap on counter.

1065 – hair brush spines.

Removed the background hum and looked

at sharpening the sound so that it becomes
clearer and out of hitting the red in the
levels bar.
1065 – Hair Brush Spines.

Added a Underwater Speech

effect and looked at turning
off the Phaser to see watch
sound most effective, here I
found the Studio Reverb to be
most effective so I left it on
and then looked at altering the
Mix between wet/dry from
100% to 76% from wet. I then
added track to the multitrack.
1074 – Can Tab Being Picked At.

Noise was pretty clear to start

with so looked at adding a delay
to the tapping to generate
further sound and rhythm. I then
looked at bringing the noise
down out of the red in the levels
bar through modifying the
toggles in the Noise Deduction
panel.

• Static, vibration to imply
flow of energy.
• Fading in and out of pitches,
to suggest further
movement.
• Negative space could imply
pauses throughout the
sound clip.

1027 - Untitled 3 - Playground Gate.

1075 - Untitled 2 - Coke Bottle Opening and Hissing.

Copy to New each track, this then creating 3 new tracks – Untitled 1, 2 ,3.
1071- Untitled 1 - Bird Flapping About in Cage.

Used the Noise Reduction and looked at altering the noise reduction toggle to remove any background noise/movement; here I also added an
Echo to the track to give the impression of vibrating electrical currents as implied by the spindly nature of the given image..
Untitled 2 - Coke Bottle Opening and Hissing.

With this track I found there to a low humming noise in the background of the clip so to remove this I used the DeHummer so get a clearer,
crisper sound of the hissing as the bottle opens. From there I then looked to lower the sound volume and bring it out of the red in the levels bar
but found whatever I did I would loose the hissing within the track, so I then lowered the actual track volume in the waveform to get an even
levelled volume that wouldn’t crackle when exported.
Untitled 3 – I found the audio of the
playground gate closing to be fine in sound
quality, so looked at added a sound effect to
track to alter its pitch and tone. To do this I
used the vocal flange to modify the current
sound to have more of a vibrating effect to
the listener; with this I turned off the studio
reverb, kept the Flanger on and looked at
changing the mix bar from 100% wet to 89%
wet.

Untitled 3 – from there I then duplicated the track and looked at reversing the clip through
going to Effects menu and Reverse. Here I also looked at slowing down the audio to get more
of a reverberating effect through using stretch and pitch in the effect drop down menu and
then changing the new duration rate..
1071- Untitled 1 - Bird Flapping About in
Cage.

Using the skills learnt on untitled 3 I then went back and

applied it to a duplicate of untitled 1 and went about
reversing and slowing down the clip at the same rate as
untitled 3.

Here I also copied and reversed the real time untitled 1 to

then link up in the multitrack when I brought all the audio
clips together.

In the Multitrack.

Here I played around with the clips in the multitrack and looked at adjusting the volumes for each track (circled) so that the blend together when
played as a whole. Here I also added a fade in and fade out on the blue track in the centre (square outline) as due to the positioning of the
hissing sound – purple track - it was loosing its place in the audio playback.
