INTRODUCTION
• The Utran Gas Based Power Station is located on
the bank of Tapi River near Surat.
• It is a Gas Based Power Station. There are two
Projects – CCPP – 1 & CCPP – 2. In CCPP – 1
there are three gas turbine units of 30 MW each
and one unit of 45 MW STG with a total installed
capacity of 135 MW.
• In CCPP – 2 , there is one GT of 228 MW & one
STG of 147 MW with a total installed capacity of
375 MW. The units of CCPP-1 are of BHEL make
& the units of CCPP – 2 are of ALSTOM make.
BASIC PRINCIPLE
• The gas based power plant work on principle of BRAYTON CYCLE.
• The Brayton cycle Is the most idealized cycle for the simple gas turbine power plant atmospheric
air is Compressed from p1 to p2 in compressor and deliver to the combustion chamber where
fuel is injected & burned. The combustion process occurs nearly at constant pressure due to
combustion heat is added to the working fluid from t2 to t3.
COMBINE CYCLYLE POWER PLANT(CCPP)
SIMPLE CYCLE
This power plant is based on brayton cycle.in this type, air is
compressed to a higher pressure with the help of compressor and
firing fuel, which may be natural gas.then air is expanded in
turbine. After driving gas turbine exhaust gas is diverted directly
to atmosphere.
SIMPLE CYCLE
COMBINE CYCLE
• It is combination of the simple brayton cycle gas turbine and the
rankine cycle
• Gas turbine operates on brayton cycle while steam turbine operates
on rankine cycle principle. This system is used for improving plant
efficiency. The power plant, which works in combined cycle , is
called CCPP
• The exhaust of gas turbine whose temperature is in order of 550*C-
600*C is led to HRSG (heat recovery steam generator) to generate
steam. thus, heat of gas turbine in turn drives steam turbine.
• Combine cycle power plant has the well-known advantage of
simpllicity as well as quick start and load change capability.
COMBINE CYCLE PLANT
GAS BOOSTER COMPRESSOR
• Natural gas available at 8kg/cm2 atmospheric pressure
from the GAIL is used as fuel for gas turbine since gas
turbine requires at 20 to 23 atmospheric pressure at GT
inlet
• The centrifugal compressor are considered as working
• The electric motor drives the centrifugal compressor
through a step up gearbox since the motor runs at 3000
rpm and compressor speed is 14600rpm.
GAS TURBINE
• The basic gas turbine components.
1. Compressor
2. Combustion chamber
3. Turbine
overall efficiency of the plants depend on its components
efficiencies.
COMPRESSOR:-
The compressor consist of 17 stage of rotor and stator blading, and the exit guide vanes.
the air is compressed in stage by series of alternate rotating rotor. And the stator blades
guide the air so that it enters in the rotor stage at proper angle.the turbine shaft is run
at high speed ranging from about 6000rpm to 8000rpm.
COMBUSTION:_
In combustion section 10 combustion chamber having flame detector, fuel nozzles and
spark plug igniters are part of total system. Hot gases generated from the burning fuels
in the combustion chambers are used in driving the turbine.
TURBINE:-
Turbine is 1 to 1.5meter section of gas turbine. Now fuel gases passes through rotor blades
of the turbine and rotates the turbine. Turbine speed is 5100rpm.turbine has three
stage. Then the shaft is connected with generator.
GENERATOR:
> The generator is the main part, which converts the mechanical
motion into electric current. Here field is generated using an exciter.
> In an exciter, a voltage of 200v is given to the stator part, which
produces a stationary magnetic field, and the rotor, which contains
the coils, surrounds the stator. due to rotor motion, it induces a
varying magnetic field. The stator of generator consist of coil in
which voltage is induced on the movement of rotor. This induced
voltage is then taken out and given to the transformer.
