Autonomous Region Of Muslim Mindanao
• Area and Location: the regiom is located at the southwesternmost
tip of the archipelago. it is bounded by Lanao Del Norte and the
Sulu Sea on the northwest, by Bukidnon and Cotabato on the
east, and by Sultan Kudarat and the Celebes Sea on the south.

• Geographic Profile: the region is often called the country`s ( RICE
BOWL ) because of its abundant rce fields that supply most of the
country`s needs. it is also rich in mineral deposits, forests and
aquatic resources. it is seldom visited by typhoons and has a
pleasantly warm climate.

• People: The ARMM is peopled by diverse

cultural groups including the Maguindanao,
the Maranaos, the Badjaos, the Tirurays,
Tausugs, and the Jama-Mapuns. These
people speak mainly Tausugs, and Samal, but
Cebuano and Tagalog are also used in the
region. The total population in ARMM as of
2007 was 4,120,795.

• Political Profile: The region is composed of the provinces of Lanao
Del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. After a referendum in
2001, the province of Basilan ( with the exception of its capital
town, Isabela ) voted to be part of the ARMM. The city of Marawi
also affirmed its decision to be part of ARMM in the same
referendum.

HOW TO GET THERE

Domestic airports, seaports and bus terminals make access to the
region easy.
Basilan: capital= Isabela De Basilan
• Area and Location: Basilan has a total land area of 1,379 square
kilometers. The mainland takes up the bulk at 124,982 hectars,
the province is bounded on the north by zamboanga de sur, on
the east by the Moro Gulf, on the west by the Sulu Sea, and on
the south by the Mindanao Sea.

• Geographic Profile: the province is comprised of the main island

of basilan and 61 smaller islands. It is separated from mainland
Mindanao by a strait 17 miles wide at its narrowest point.
Mainland Basilan has a Volcanic and hilly terrain.
 How to get there: From Zamboanga City, Basilan is Only a 1-hour and 15-minutes ferry ride away.

lanao Del Sur: capital= Marawi City
• Area and location: Lanao Del Sur has a total land area of 3,850
square kilometers. it is bounded on the north by Lanao Del Norte,
on the east by Bukidnon, on the west by illana Bay, and on the
south by Maguindanao and Cotabato.

• Geographic Profile: Lanao Del Sur forms the western portion of

the extensive plateauof Northern Mindanao.Coastal Plains
androlling hills adjoining the Illana bay give away to mauntain
ranges along the Cotabato boundary and to lowlands along the
east towards Bukidnon.
How to get there: From Cagayan De Oro City in Misamis Oriental, there are vehicles that take passengers
to Marawi City. From Illigan in lanao Del Norte one can take a bus or jeepney bound for marawi city.

Maguindanao: capital= Sultan Kudarat
• Area and Location: Maguindanao Has an aggregate land area of
5,474.10 square kilometers. it is bounded by Cotabato on the north,
by Lanao Del Sur On the east, by the Moro gulf on the west, and by
Sultan Kudarat on the south.

• Geographic Profile: The eastern part of the province is composed of

plains crisscrossed by the Rio Grande De Mindanao and its
tributaries. the western part is maountainous, except for the area
around Cotabato City at the mouth of the great Mindanao River. The
Climate is characterized by a more or les even distribution of rainfall
troughout the year, and the weather is very raerly cloudly or
overcast.
How to get there: From Cotabato City, buses take passengers regularly to Maguindanao. Ships
From Manila and Cebu sail directly To Maguindanao via Zamboanga.

Tourist attractions
Sulu: capital= Jolo
• Area and location: Sulu lies midway between Basilan
Tawi-tawi in the Southern Mindanao. it is baounded by the
sulu Sea on the north and west, by the Mindanao Sea on
the east, and bay the Celebes Sea on the south.

• Geographic Profile: Jolo is the cheif island of the Sulu

archipelago. It is Approximately 37 miles long from the
east to west and has an average width of 10 miles. Jolo is
located 95 statue miles south of Zamboanga City.
Tawi-Tawi: capital= Bongao
• Area and Location: Tawi-Tawi is the southernmost
province of the country, just across it is the state of sabah
in East Malaysia. the province is bounded on the north ad
west by the Sulu Sea, and by the Celebes Sea on the
east and south.

• Geographic Profile:
 How to get there: Regular boats sail from Zamboanga to jolo almost daily: the trip takes 12
hours. there is also a fast ferry that services the same route; travel times is about six hours.
