What is the spoof text?

• Definition
Spoof text is used to tell a short a story or
event with humorous twist. The stories are
normal in the beginning and the end have a
funny twist that makes you laugh. Spoof text is
very similiar to recount text. Both spoof and
recount tell about the past event with
chronological order.
 The Generic Structue

ORIENTATION : it is the
introduction of the story. By giving the
orientation reader will recognize for
the first time, who involves in the
story

EVENT : several events are

explored in chronoligal way which
able to arrange the story read
nicely.

TWIST : This is the unpredictable

event/thing/way which amuse the
reader. Readers even did not predict
before that it would be

• Focusing on people, animals or certain things.

• Use of material processes
• Circumtunes of time and place
• Using the past tense: was, were, did, etc.

I Live in Jedding

Two years ago some friends and I came to

Indonesia to learn some a Bahasa Indonesia. ORIENTATION
While here we stayed in villages with host
families. One friend and I lived in Rejoso and my other
friends lived in a village called Jeding. Whanever we EVENTS
were asked where we lived my friend said “saya tinggal
di jeding”. Everyone would start laughing.
After a few days he started to get upset. He
didn’t understand why people kept laughing at him.
Finnaly, he asked one of our Indonesian friends why.
Our friends started laughing saying “jeding TWIST
means bathroom in Javanese!” So every time someone
asked him where he was living he was laughing.
