LEARNING OBJECTIVES: To consolidate the language from the unit, to practice recognizing and using it in
different contexts.
To become familiar with the written form of the vocabulary words, to learn to read the
story in the storybook, and to tell it.

ACTIVITIES: TIMING: DETAILS:

WARM UP: 15 minutes 1. Greetings: Say Hello + [name] to each child when they come into class.
Encourage them to say Hello + [name] to the other children when they come
in. You could have the Hello Song playing as they come in to create a
welcoming atmosphere. Give them time to settle.

2. The teacher uses a Pingu or Pinga hand puppet to ask each student
questions one by one.
Functional language: Q: What’s your name?     A: My name is …
                                     Q: How old are you?        A: I am … years old.
                                     Q: Where are you from?  A: I’m from …

3. The T.A. writes the children’s names on the board and gives each one a star
for sitting nicely while the teacher goes through the Class Rules with the
children.

LANGUAGE 5 minutes The teacher revises the flashcards for the unit with the children, and goes through
REVIEW: them one by one. The teacher explains the meaning of each flashcard and/or mimes
it, and ensures that each child understands what the word means. The teacher
encourages the children to repeat the words after them.

GAME TIME 1: 5 minutes Game objectives: To test if they can recognize the flashcards with ease.

Spy glass game: The teacher uses the spy glass card to show a small part of the
flashcard by moving it over the picture. If the students recognize the flashcard they
shout it out and are rewarded with stars.

LANGUAGE 15 minutes Children sit nicely while looking at and listening to the teacher. Make sure every

Steps:
1. Lead into Story time.
2. Play the story CD without interruption while the teacher points to the
pictures and sentences in the story.

3. Go through the story page by page.


I. Look at the picture on the first page.
II. Ask the students some questions about the picture
III. Read the words/phrases/sentences on each page and ask the key
comprehension questions again.
4. Lead children to read the story sentence by sentence together.
Encourage children to point to pictures on the page and to say the words with you by
asking questions: Where is Mommy?, Where is Daddy?, Where is Grandpa?
Repeat and encourage children to repeat with you key words from the story for
example:
Hello Mommy, Hello Daddy, Hi Grandpa.
Play the story on the CD and encourage children to say the words of the story at the
same time.

BREAK / SNACK: 10 minutes The teacher chooses a child who has been working hard so far to choose a video or
song to watch on youtube. The T.A. hands out snacks to the children and offers
water.

DRAMA STAGE/ 15 minutes Pingu’s drama stage:


STORY GAME:
1. Teacher sets the drama stage. Display all the materials where it’s
convenient to get and use. Place the figurines of Pingu, Mommy, Daddy
and Grandpa on the floor. Place the Pinga figurine in a small box.
2. The teacher demonstrates the role play first. Take the Pingu figurine and
in a “Pingu voice” ask “Where is Pinga?” and pretend that Pingu looks for
Pinga in random places in the classroom. Take Pingu to Mommy and say
“Hello Mommy, where is Pinga?”. Mommy then pretends to look
everywhere for Pinga and says to Daddy “Hello Daddy, where is Pinga?”
etc. The last figurine looks inside the box and says “Look! Here is Pinga!
Pinga is in the box!”
3. Children take turns to act and say the sentences. Give the students a
figurine so they can act out the story in the same way. Guide them to say
the sentences.

SONG TIME: 5 minutes Act it out:


Play the song L1 Unit 2
The teacher places the figurines of Pingu, Mommy, Daddy and Grandpa on the floor.
Put the Pinga figurine in a small box next to the other figurines. The teacher follows
the song lyrics to demonstrate what it means.
Eg. With the song lyrics “Pingu, Pingu, Hello Pingu! Where is Pinga? Where is
Pinga?” the teacher waves to Pingu and pretends to ask where Pinga is.
With the song lyrics “Look Pingu! Look Pingu! Pinga’s in the box!” the teacher takes
the Pingu figurine, places his head over the box to “look”, and then takes Pinga out of
the box.

WORKSTATIONS: 15 minutes Workstation 1: Student flashcards (TA Led)


(Separate class Give each student a flashcard to hold in their hand. The teacher uses the speaker to

Pinga?’ the student with Pinga must place the figurine on the Pinga flashcard and
say: ‘Here is Pinga!”

CLOSE / WRAP 5 minutes 1. The students sit back down and are called one by one to receive a sticker.
UP: The student with the most stars is called first, and so on.

2. The class sing a goodbye song together. The teacher says ‘goodbye’ to the
students, and the students say ‘goodbye, Teacher.’

3. The teacher tells the students that they can line up, and the T.A. and teacher
make sure that the children have any personal belongings before they go.
