Metamorphosis?
 Meta?
Change or alteration
 Morphe?
Meaning Form
The manner in which a an organism or any it’s part changes form or undergoes development
 Mmetamorphosis
Metamorphosis refers to the way that insects develops grow and change form metamorphosis
actually Infers change.
Description

 Series of changes through insect passes in its growth from the egg stage (such
as aphid may give eggs or give birth to young ones ) through the immature
stages (nymph larva or pupa) to adult ststagea.
 All insects during their embryonic development go on shedding and moulting
their skin. This process is known as ecstasy.
 The particular shape or form of an insect between two moulting is known as
instar.
 The period between two moulting is called stadium.
 The adult of an insect is called imago.
Types

 There are three types of memetmetamorphosis.

1. Ametabola(without Metamorphosis)
2. Hemimetabola(incompelete Metamorphosis)
3. Holometabola (complete Metamorphosis)
Ametabola

 Young ones have slight changes to become adults are said to be without
metamorphosis e.g, silverfish, springtails.
 Al such insects are wingless called Apterygota.
 The young is called nymph similar to adult in appearance but smaller in size.
 Lifestages are egg<nymph<adult
Silverfish, Telsontails, Springtails
Hemimetabola

 Have three lidea stages.

Egg<nymph<adult
 Simple metamorphosis
 Adults and nymph feed on same feed.
 May have wings which develops externally called exoterygota.
 Young are known as nymph and no resting stage pupupa.
 Grasshopper, cockroaches
Holometabola

 Insect with complete metamorphosis have four stages

Egg<larva<pupa<adult
 Larvae are very different in form from adult.
 Active immature stages are larvae.
 Resting stage is known as pupa, this stage is a transition stage, when the
larva is transmitted to adult.
 If wing are present they devils internally within pupa
 They usually have chewing mouth parts.
Instar?
 A phase between two periods of moulting in the development of an insect larva or other
invertebrate animal.
 The particular shape or form of an insect between two moulting is called Instar.
Stadium?

 The period between two moultings is called stadium

Exuvium ?

 An exuvia (plural exuviae) is the cast-off outer skin of an arthropod

after a moult. In some species the exuvia is eaten soon after the
moult although in other species it is left. For example, the exuviae of
cicadas can often been seen on the surface of trees. In summer, it's
often possible to see exuvia of dragonflies on plant stems near the
water's edge.
Average

 A number expressing the central or typical value in a set of data.

How to calculate?
 Average iscalculated by dividing the sum of the values in the set by their
number.
 Example 4 days observation of temperature in C bblock
Is 30°C,34°C,38°C,42°C
Now average temperature of C block is 36°C
