What are What exactly
matters, like are they?
water, air, or Why are they
soil? different?
Hypothesis
• Matters are comprised
of micro-structures.
• They are different
because these micro-
structures are different.
Experiment: Interaction of
Electrostatics with Water
• Materials:
• Water flow from a
water faucet
• A Comb
Turn on Turn on tap water to make slow and steady water flow.

Comb your hair multiple times repeatedly until your some of

Comb your hair start to be floating and fluffy.

Procedure Hold Quickly hold the comb and move it steadily close the flowing
water current.

Observe Observe closely what happened and record it on notebook.

Repeat Repeat the above steps two more times.

Results
• Water flow changed
direction
• It moved toward the
comb, rather than straight
down when there is no
interference.
H2 O Conclusion:
• There must be micro-structures,
like smaller particulates in water.

• These particulates are charged

with electricity, so that they can
interact with the electrons on the
comb.

• Now with other experiments we

know that a water molecule
consists of one oxygen atom and
two hydrogen atoms.
