REVIEW OF TENSES

SSP 105
SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
• Describes daily routine & facts.

• Rules: S + Simple present verbs + O + time exp.

a) I wake up at 7am everyday.


b) Water boils at 100 C.
Simple Progressive
• Actions that are ongoing at the moment / now
/ right now.

• Rules: S + be verb +V-ing + O + Time exp.

a) She is appearing on the TV show.

b) I am talking to you. Are you listening to me?


Always (Simple Present Tense)
• Refers to daily routine.

• Rules: S + always + present simple + O

a) Lynn always goes back at 5pm.

b) Bella always goes to bed at 11pm.


Always (Simple progressive)
• To describe annoyance / dislikes

• Rules: S + be verb + always / forever / constantly +


v-ing + O

a) Lynn is always not taking shower.

b) Jack is always listening to the music loudly while im


trying to fall asleep.
Past Progressive
• Describes ongoing actions in the past (While –
v-ing , when-past simple)

• Rules: S + was / were + v-ing + O

a) While I was taking shower someone knocked


on the door.
b) I was playing football when my mother called
me in.
Simple Past
• Actions happened in the past (specific time)

• Rules: S + V2 + O + time exp

a) She bought a book.

b) He ran out of the building.
