GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
▪ Mission Statement:
"The purpose of  Prairie View A&M University’s American Society of
Civil Engineers Chapter is to expose students to opportunities in various
industries, retain them in engineering professions, and release them into
society with the proper tools needed in the engineering community.”
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
▪ Goal 1:
⮚To increase the number of retention of members every year by having
more events and opportunities that will attract people.
▪ Goal 2:
⮚To obtain a better connection with Freshmans and Sophomores within
the beginning of every new school year.
▪ Goal 3:
ØTo participate more with ASCE national events and competitions
throughout the school year, by fundraising and raising money to go.
GOAL 1
▪ We would like to increase the retention rate of members at least 5% and
also keep them participating more throughout  the semester.
▪ Action plan :
▪ By going to introduce ourselves in any civil classes from beginners to
senior design classes,
▪ Tutoring sessions to help any civil engineering student
▪ Follow-up plan:
▪ Attend the involvement fair on campus and try to do more social event
GOAL 2

To obtain a better connection with Freshmen's and Sophomore's within the

beginning of every new school year.
▪ Action plan listing tasks of how you planned to achieve your goal
▪ Having the EBoard attend the Freshman and Sophomore level classes and
introducing ourselves and ASCE.
▪ Follow-up plan for the future
▪ Have more social events near or in the freshmen dorms.
▪ Have events at an earlier time.
GOAL 3
To participate more with ASCE national events and
competitions throughout the school year.
▪ Some of the ASCE events include ASCE Houston Branch meeting, Compete in the Concrete
Canoe competition, Compete in the ASCE Sustainable Solutions Competition, and the Texas -
Mexico Conference host by University of Texas at Arlington.
Plan of Attack
▪ Our chapter has been trying to get more involved in participating in events on campus and also
national ASCE events. However, a major obstacle in reaching this goal has been that our
chapter lack substantial funding to pay for our members involvement in various events.

▪ To better this effort, we created a schedule of fundraising activities to occur every other week
on a specific day. We increased advertisement of these events around campus so that the
turnout would be higher as well as the profit made from the event.

▪ To get more member to attend the ASCE Houston Branch meeting a ticket will be handed out to
member who attend, which the ticket will then be place in a raffle to win a prize which could
include a trip to the Texas - Mexico Conference .

because of its ability to plan sites a lot easier than hand drawings, it
can help design a lot of engineering supplies, and is constantly
upgrading. This workshop was to show our members that this program

SUMMARY AND QUESTIONS
▪ What were the most significant events of the year?

One of the most significant events would be habitat from humanity , I

feel like our chapter loves to get together outside of school to give
back to the community and be able to bond with each other.
▪ What were the most significant challenges?
Retention rate in our chapter meetings. Many times when we hosted
meeting the percentage of members that would join us would not be
that high. We will come up with better ideas to get more members to
come.
