Family Digital Wall Clock
Features: Description:
• Readable to aged people
• Correct time and date
This design is of a digital wall clock that
• Recorded greetings
can shows accurate time, date and day
• Sound notifications
now using an RTC. It also shows the
• Adjustable date and time
temperature and default greetings at the
event of the day. This digital wall also
Applications: has notifications that can be set every
hour or every quarter hour; notification
sounds can be changed and customized.

Needs of Customer / Project Objectives

1. Readable to people with optical problems

2. Sound Notification to specific times.
3. Display accurate and correct time and date
4. Personalized sound notification
5. Adjustable date and time
Use of Engineering Standards
 A digital-output sensor is used to get the temperature and humidity of the
surrounding air around the clock. DHT22 uses capacitive humidity sensor and a
thermistor to measure the surrounding air. Its sensing elements is connected
with 8-bit single-chip computer.
 The design also use a real-time clock (RTC) a computer clock that keeps track of
the current time.
 A soundboard module, a stand-alone device, was used to add sound
notifications on this design.
 Arduino Mega 2560, a microcontroller, is used to control all the variables that
are inputted on it which are the time from the RTC, and temperature and
humidity from the DHT22.
Impact of Design Solution

 The designed digital clock helps users keep track of their time because of
the sound reminder setting on the clock which can be set every 15
minutes or every 30 minutes. This helps users that have extremely
packed schedule or tasked to wisely manage their time.
 It also offers easier readability to older people or to people who cannot
see clearly without optical aids.
Differentiation

1. The design digital clock have added features one of which is getting the
temperature and humidity of the surrounding air around it.
2. The design also able users to personalize this digital clock for they can use
their own recordings as the sound notification.
3. The design can be set-up to have sound notifications every 30 minutes or
every 15 minutes.
4. The design can display default greeting depending on the time of the day,
and also display holiday greetings and notifications.
Benefits

1. The major benefit of this design is helping users in time management.

With the integrated sound reminders on the system, they can easily keep
track of time. Personalization of sound notification is also possible on
this design.
2. Easier readability is also beneficial to users, especially to those that don’t
have a clear vision.
Engineering Principles

1. Does not use engineering principles to develop a prototype

2. Only focuses on one engineering principle to a problem in developing a
prototype; no attempted
3. Can develop and compare multiple engineering principles to a problem
in developing a prototype
4. Suggests new approaches and improves on what has been done before in
developing a prototype
5. Develops several potential engineering principles and finds the proper
engineering principle in developing a prototype
Design Goals

 The objective of this project is to design a digital wall clock that is

readable to people that do not have clear vision, will display the correct
time and date of the day, have audio reminders, can use audio recordings
as sound notification and adjustable date and time.
