Launching
Important things to remember
before lowering the survival craft:
• Boat painters (fore and aft) and bowsing
lines should be set up before launching
and must be passed into the rafts before
lowering, to ensure that they do not
snag on anything.
• That it is clear below of any obstruction.
Check the hooks
Check On Load / off load release lever
Check the engine
Release the lashings
Put on the bottom plug
Make sure the painter is secured
Wear lifejackets
Embark
Close all openings
Fasten seatbelt
Start the engine

Clearing the ship’s side
1. Once the lifeboat is waterborne use the
engine to keep clear away from ship’s
side or by using the oars.
2. The painter can be used also to assist in
clearing the ship’s side.
3. In a liferaft the sea anchor will be
deployed to clear away from ship.
Marshalling liferafts and
rescuing survivors from sea
1. Rescue boats will be used to marshall
liferafts, clear and pick up survivors and
persons in the sea.
2. Anyone entering the water to assist a
survivor must have a lifeline.
