Methods of Contraception: Artificial Birth Control
Method
● Any product, procedure or practice
that uses artificial or unnatural
means to prevent pregnancy.
● Barrier methods such as: condoms,
diaphragms, hormonal methods
such as the pill and IUDs, and
surgical sterilization procedures
such as vasectomy, hysterectomy
are all considered to be artificial
birth control method

Barrier Methods: Contraceptive Sponge
● It is a Polyurethane foam that
is soft and resembles a disk,
laced with the spermicide

Barrier Method: Diaphragm
● Is a soft silicon cap placed inside
the vagina so that it prevents the
sperm from getting into the uterus.
● Spermicide is also put into the bowl
of the diaphragm and along its
edges before inserting it into the
vagina so it covers the cervix.

Barrier Method: Cervical Cap
● Is a thimble-shaped latex cup, basically
like a diaphragm but small.
● Just like diaphragm, it also needs to be
used with a spermicide.
