Line and Staff Organization

This pattern is originated to support the chief

executive, the specialists are to improve
management functions. It is purely advisory
(consultant , or specialist) to the liner structure
and has no authority.
Work is carried out in accordance with specialized
functions, and authority is exercised in a hierarchical
manner. In a highly centralized structure, decisions
are made by a few executives or managers and flow
downward through the enterprise.

purely advisory but have some
command authority over line employees
for certain functions. This is frequently

:AdHoc organization

A project team or task force of a group of

diverse specialists who are temporarily joined
to perform a nonroutine task of a complex
nature and critical importance to the agency.
This type creates flexibility and cohesiveness
among workers than does line structure. This
structure’ disadvantages are decreased strength
in the chain of command and decreased
employee loyalty to the parent organization.

:Matrix Organization
This structure uses the adhoc approach
but builds the team into a fully functional
hierarchy. Under this organizational
pattern, employees clearly work for two
or more managers. It has a formal
vertical and horizontal chain of
command.
