word to form a new meaning.

Example:

Open Form – two words are separated but when read
together they form new meaning.

What is a paragraph?

A paragraph is made up of sentences that


focus on a single idea.

The Apollo 11 spacecraft launched from the Kennedy Space
Center in Florida. Its mission was to go where no human being
had gone before—the moon! The crew consisted of Neil
Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin. The spacecraft
landed on the moon in the Sea of Tranquility, a basaltic flood
plain, on July 20, 1969. The moonwalk took place the following
day. On July 21, 1969, at precisely 10:56 EDT, Commander Neil
Armstrong emerged from the Lunar Module and took his famous
first step onto the moon’s surface. He declared, “That’s one small
step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” It was a monumental
moment in human history!

Dictionary has 5 Main Parts

1. Guide words - are found at the top of each page in a


dictionary. These words help find words easily because it
tells you the first and last entry words on each page.
2. Entry words - are words in a dictionary arranged in
alphabetical order. These are written in bold.
Note: 1 symbolizes that there is more than one definition
entry.
3. Pronunciation - this is separated into syllables and tells
you how to pronounce the entry word. The ´ tells you
which syllable is stressed
4. Part of speech - this abbreviation / word tells you what
part of speech the defined word is.
5. Definition - This explains the meaning of the entry word.
If there is more than one meaning, the definition is divided
by numbers. Also, an example sentence is often used to
make the meaning clearer.
Thesaurus - a synonym dictionary is a reference
work for finding synonyms and
sometimes antonyms of words / entry words. They
are often used by writers to help find the best word to
express an idea:...to find the word, or words, by
which [an] idea may be most fitly and aptly
expressed— Peter Mark Roget, 1852
