Introduction:
We have selected Pizza hut. We are going to discuss its practices which
contribute in creating a positive climate for learning and transfer of training at
Pizza Hut

O Pizza Hut is an American restaurant chain and international franchise which


was founded in 1958 in Wichita, Kansas.
O Pizza Hutt is one of the largest pizza chains in the world.
O It now has over 16,000 individual stores worldwide.
O Pizza Hut is available in over 100 countries
Training and development
O Pizza hut believes in supporting and developing their employees to the
fullest potential using various programs such as:
1. Expert training program

2. Developing training program


3. Technical training

4. Core and fast track management development program


Types of training
1. On the Job Training: Every day, around the world, restaurant members
receive on-the-job training and coaching in skills and procedures essential
to their work.

2. Classroom Training: Classroom courses, developed and led by training


experts, prepare outstanding restaurant employees for advancement.

3. Computer-Based Training: New computer-based training system is


bringing interactive learning experiences to crew members and managers
right in the restaurants.
Levels of training
1. Crew Member’s Training: At Pizza Hut, training never stops. Crew members
are trained extensively on all food safety and food handling processes.
Trainees work while they learn the operational skills necessary for running
each of the 23 positions in restaurant - from front counter to the grill area.

2. Manager’s Training: Pizza Hut is dedicated to professional training and


development. The average Pizza Hut restaurant manager spends more than
2,000 hours over four years in training of one kind or another. This is about the
same amount of time that a typical four-year college student spends in the
classroom.

Environment
O In Pizza Hut, all new recruits joining the restaurant are sent on a initial
induction program, in which the company introduce new recruits to
their job position, their team and the workplace and the organizational
background i.e. business values.
O It helps them establish positive relationships between the employees
by building their commitment to its visions and goals i.e., ‘Being the
most loved restaurant brand’ and providing great service for
customers.
Training Design: Use Self-Management
Strategies

O Employees are consistently working towards the core competence


framework, this helps employees expand performance i.e. speed of
service, product quality, good hospitality service and creating good
relations with customers and employee members.
O Also the initial on the job training partner is flexible and more
informal based to reduce pressure and help encourage confidence in
the new employee’s ability to perform.
Work Environment: Management and Peer Support
O In Pizza Hut employees go through a three hour on the job training and are partnered with a recognized
expert trainer.
O When the restaurant manager is satisfied with the progress, the employee will be assigned to an ongoing
personal Host Training Workbook’ which is an educational material aimed to enhance level of
professional knowledge and broadening the restaurants awareness i.e. hospitality service in a fast
moving environment.
O The training workbook introduces the vital aspects of key competences which include Communication
Skills, Knowledge & Attitude/Behaviors.
O Pizza hut introduced touch screen monitors & online ordering system the management makes sure that
all the staffs have idea about the innovation as well as the advantages for this purpose.
O Store Manager calls the staff meeting and tells them about the innovation and then they train them. The
deputy store manager also keep watching the performance of staff regarding the technology and he also
ensures that every single staff must have the knowledge about the new technology, staff after getting the
training then they could be able to help and teach the customer about the self-check outs and online
ordering by themselves.

O In Pizza Hut, all their new employees have an initial training period in which
they are shown the basics and allowed to develop their skills to a level where
they are competent in each area within the restaurant.

O In Pizza Hut, employees also attend classroom-based training sessions where


they will complete workbooks for quality, service and cleanliness.

Knowledge Enabled- Intranet:
O Pizza Hut uses intranet sites as its foundation for knowledge sharing .Intranet
is a secure way of communication between the head office and store level
rather than compromising their security by using internet. Pizza hut intranet is
very useful where we can find all the standards, contact details, new
developments on marketing and plans for future. All the training of the pizza
hut is on intranet rather than sending it by post they just post it on intranet so
everyone can benefit from it.
