• HIS MOTHER DIED SHORTLY AFTER
CHILDBIRTH.
• FATHER:

WATCHMAKER AND A DANCE

• WHEN HE WAS TEN HIS
FATHER RUN AWAY FROM
GENEVA.

• HE STOPPED TRADITIONAL SCHOOLING AT
THE AGE OF 12.

• LATER BECOME LOVER TO A WEALTHY
WIDOW WHO PROVIDED FOR HIS
EDUCATION IN THE CLASSICS AND MUSIC.
CAREER
• 1742 WHEN ROUSSEAU WENT TO
PARIS, WHERE HE EARNED HIS
LIVING AS A MUSIC TEACHER,
MUSIC COPYIST AND POLITICAL
SECRETARY.
• HE BECOME A CLOSE FRIEND OF
DENIS DIDEROT

• IN PARIS, IN 1745 HE TOOK A MISTRESS,
