INTRODUCTION

What is work methodology?

• Work methodology is a way that is followed in order to compete work properly

• Each company has its own work methodology

• work methodology can be either by conventional way or using the method which is BIM
• LDRS Chehab & Partners is a public consulting company and has several departments in
engineering major.
• An investigation was done with them in order to know more about work methodology
WORK METHODOLOGY
STEPS OF DESIGNING THE PROJECTS

First thing after wining the project is investigating about urbanism laws of the project
location and doing some other research regarding their tasks (required studies for the
site).
STEPS OF
DESIGNING
THE PROJECTS

• Doing the first draft of the project

and this is implemented by the
architect.
• Before initializing the work of the
structure design, the civil engineer
should make sure that everything
is taken into consideration to do
any required modification
STEPS OF DESIGNING THE
PROJECT

After issuing the modified draft:

• The civil engineer will start working on the structure design.
• The MEP will oversee the electromechanical part.
COMMUNICATION BETWEEN RELATED
PARTIES

• The communication between Civil engineer and the MEP for any modification is through the
architect.

WAYS OF COMMUNICATION

Emails Private
Meetings
Server
LAST STAGE

•The architect, MEP, and structural engineer are all

in the same company which decreases the possibility
of losing information.
•At the end of this process a final design will be
ready for execution
•They also work BIM, but this happen if the owner
ask them, but this case dose not happen in Lebanon.
BIM METHODOLOGY
REQUIRED ON POT

1. Location and dimensions of the

land
2. Required level of detail (LOD)
from the owner
SOFTWARES USED

1.Revit

2. Primavera

3. Navisworks

4. Etabs

5. SketchUp
OUTCOME DIMENSIONS
STEP OF BIM IN THE
COMPANY

1. Architect will draw the 3D preliminary

drawing
2. dead drawing work-sets for the structural
and MEP engineers will be shared
3. Drawings will be synchronized to detect
clashes
4. Engineers from different disciplines will
work on the same files, and all the
additional drawings, info, and design will
be uploaded on the platform to inform
other engineers
WAY OF
COMMUNICATION

•Revit Cloud
•Live Meeting
•Emails
•Private Servers
COMMUNICATION
THROUGH WORK SET

• Dead work-set: is the shared work-set that

will be synchronized between all
engineers.

• Live work-set: is the active work-set for

each engineer. All engineers will be
working on the live work-set.

THROUGH
CENTRAL FILE

1. A central file will be shared for

all the engineers working in the
same discipline.

2. Engineers will request the

approval through the platform
from the original engineer that
drawn or edited the element to
be able to do changes on it.
STRONG POINTS

• own private server used by engineers to share information

• presence of all engineering majors in the office eases the
work and makes it efficient
• engineers in the company use Revit software for all
architectural drawings to stay updated
GAPS

• The company we visited doesn’t have

major gaps since all the engineers are
of different departments.
• daily collaboration between them
avoiding any major loss of
information.
• Any possible existing gap will be a
minor gap in the naming of maps or
drawing details.
WHAT IS NEEDED TO IMPLEMENT
BIM IN LEBANON?

1. Including it in the University Curriculum

2. Educating the contractors about the methodology

3. Continues training for engineers in this domain
