 INTRODUCTION
Conservation of heritage is the essential duty of every
citizen. The rich and flourishing heritage of a country has
to be carried forward to the next generation. In this
context as the saying goes a single hand cannot make clap.
It is the obligation of every individual to conserve and
carry forward the heritage. Community participation plays
an important role in the conservation of heritage.

 MEANING AND IMPORTANCE
OF HERITAGE CONSERVATION
Meaning: The conservation of heritage process involves the
valorisation of cultural, historical and natural heritage assets and
preserve their historical messages. This is aware of its rich heritage.
Importance: The Conservation restoration of cultural heritage
focuses on Protection and Care of tangible cultural heritage,
including art works, architecture, archaeology and museum
collections. Conservation activities include preventive conservation
examination, documentation, research, treatment and education.
Heritage conservation is important for identifying, recording,
analyzing and protecting Heritage and cultural resources.
Conservation of heritage buildings is very important because it
provides a sense of identity and continuity in a past changing world
for future generation
 THE ROLE OF INTACH

In 1984 the Indian National Trust of Art and

Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Was registered as a
Society Under Section 12A of the Income Tax Act.
Today it is recognised as a one of the Worlds
Largest heritage organizations, with over 198
chapters across India. Its logo, based on the
anthropomorphic copper figure from Shahabad-
Uttar Pradesh belonging to enigmatic copper
hoards of the Ganga valley. (Circa 1800-1700BC)
is equally the perceived brand image of INTACH.
 THE VISION & MISSION OF
INTACH
 Senstize the public about the pluralistic cultural legacy of
India.
 Instill a Sense of Social responsibility towards Preserving
Indian’s Common Heritage.
 Protect and Preserve India’s Living, built and natural.
Heritage by Undertaking necessary actions and measures.
 Document unprotected building of archaeological,
architectural historic and aesthetic significance, as well as the
cultural resources. As this is the first step towards
formulating conservation plans.
 Develop heritage policies and regulations and make legal
interventions to protect India's heritage when necessary

INTACH Kalaburagi Chapter as opened in

2011 with the encouragement and
assistance of then secretary of HKRDB
Smt. (Dr.) Shalini Rajnish, at present it has
25 Life members, 75 Student members & 30
Associate members.

 Create awareness about the local heritage and its
importance by

 Organizing special lectures, seminars, symposium, debates,

Competitions & Group discussions.
 Organising periodic functions to mark days earmarked for
specific heritage themes, World Tourism Day, World Heritage
Day, World Environment Day, World Heritage Week, INTACH
Foundation day etc.
 Organizing heritage walk, nature trails, fields trips etc.
 Organising Awareness Camps.
 Organising workshops, guides training programmes, orientation
programme, Kalaburagi Darshana, Bidar Darshana, Sirwwal
Darshana, Sannati Darshana etc. for school and college students.
 Network with school, colleges, universities and other academic
institutions and Youth Clubs by
 Training teachers with a view to establish heritage clubs in their
educational institutions.
 Organizing and encouraging visits to Museums.
 Organizing debates, poetry sessions, quizzes, Posters Making and
painting competitions on Heritage issues of local, regional and national
importance.
 Motivating schools to take children's to visit sites of Historic and Cultural
importance.
 Organizing Programs with like – minded organizations such as Historical
societies, Professional bodies, Museum Societies, Heritage societies etc.
 Giving information about the historical monuments to foreign tourists
who visits Kalaburagi, Bidar & Sannati etc.
 Guiding peoples representatives, bureaucrats, delegates of corporate
houses during their visit to historical monuments of Kalaburagi, Bidar
and other sites.
 INTACH, Kalaburagi chapter has undertaken a project to
prepare Audio-Visuals (C.D) on historical and heritage sites
of H.K.Region to create aareness among the public. As part
of this project ‘Kalaburagi Darshan’ C.D. has been released
by Chairman, INTACH, New Delhi in 2017.
 INTACH, Kalaburagi chapter is planning a project to list the
Natural Heritage, Art Heritage and Intangible Heritage sites
of H.K.Region in the coming years.

Thus, a rich heritage of a country can be preserved

and carried forward only when the members of a
community are made aware of their heritage. In this
context INTACH is playing proactive role by
organising various activities in the historically and
culturally rich Kalaburagi District. INTACH
Kalaburagi chapter has shown how community can be
involved in preservation of heritage and development
of tourism. The involvement of NGO’s like INTACH
goes long way in the community participation.
