Load flow analysis

NewWay Academy
Load Flow
• Used to provide numerical solution for the power system
• Used to compute steady-state voltages and phase angles.
• Used to compute real and reactive powers flowing the
entire network.
• Helps in:
1. Designing Substations.
2. Cable Selection.
3. Transmission lines analysis
4. Insulators.
5. Protection devices such as Circuit breakers,
fuses and etc.
Load Flow Techniques
• Guess Seidel method.
• Newton Raphson method.
• Fast decoupled method.

All these techniques are classified according to

number of iterations computed and how fast the
system can converge to the solution
Types Of Buses
• Load Bus Or PQ bus:
We know the exact values of active power ”P”
and reactive power “Q” absorbed by the bus, but
Voltage magnitude and phase angle are missing.

• Generator Bus Or PV bus:

We know the exact values of active power ”P”
and Voltage magnitude “V” of the bus, but
reactive power “Q” and phase angle are missing.
Types Of Buses
• Slack bus, Swing bus, Reference bus Or Infinite
bus:
We know the exact values of Voltage magnitude
“V” and phase angle of the bus, but values of
active power ”P” and reactive power “Q”
absorbed by are missing.
