neighbor; therefore love is the
fulfilling of the law.”

false gods and goddesses.
• It excludes polytheism, the belief in many gods,
insisting instead on the belief in one God.
• The first commandment requires us to nourish and
protect our faith with prudence and vigilance and to
reject everything that is opposed to it.

people.
SINS THAT NEGLECT THE SECOND

intention of keeping it.
3RD COMMANDMENT:
“REMEMBER TO KEEP HOLY THE SABBATH
DAY.”
• This commandment recalls the holiness of the Sabbath.
• The precept of the Church specifies the Law of the Lord more precisely: “On Sundays and other
Holy days of obligation the faithful are bound to participate in the mass.”
• The scripture reveals in the Lord’s day a memorial of Israel’s liberation from bondage in Egypt.
• The Jews’ Sabbath begins on the sunset of Friday and lasts until sunset on Saturday.
