A.Answer the questions in a few lines.

Q1. What was Johnny’s rule?


Ans: It was Johnny’s ‘rule’ to look at the sky and the
clouds that floated by while walking .

Q2. Why was he called ‘Johnny Head –in- Air’ ?


Ans : He was called ‘Johnny Head-in-Air’ as he walked
with his head looking upwards at the sky and the
clouds , and did not bother to look in front of him.
Q3. What were the things which Johnny watched while
walking beside the river ?
Ans: Johnny watched the bright round sun, going behind
and reappearing from the clouds, and the flying swallows
while walking beside the river.

Q4. Describe the river’s brink ?


Ans : The river’s brink was high and steep, and the water
there was deep. There were fishes swimming in a row
along the brink .

Q5. What would Johnny never forget?


Ans : Johnny would never forget his plight of falling into the river
and being pulled out all wet.

B. Read the lines and answer the questions .

Up on high /In the sky ;
And he never heard them cry
1. What did Johnny not see because his eyes were astray ?
Ans :Johnny did not see the dog that he bumped into as his eyes
were astray.

2. What did Johnny not hear ?


Ans : Jhnny did not hear the warning cries of the people.
3. What happened because of this ?
Ans : As Johnny did not pay attention, he bumped into the
dog in front of him , and both the dog and Johnny fell with
a thump.

Q2. One step more ! Oh ! Sad to tell ! Headlong in poor


Johnny fell .
And the fishes, in dismay/Wagged their rails and ran away.
1. Where did Johnny fall and how ?
Ans : Johnny fell headlong into the river. Johnny kept
walking while looking at the bright sun above and reached
the river’s
brink. He took and extra step, where there was none , and
so he fell into the river .

2. Describe the imaginary in the last two lines in your


own words ?
Ans : The last two lines describe how the fish were
dismayed and ran away with wagging tails. Here, the fish
are compared to dogs, which wagged their tails hurriedly
as Johnny fell headlong into the river.

3. How was Johnny rescued ?


Johnny was rescued by two strong men who
used sticks as hooks to pull him out of the river
