Growing families require more resources and time. As the

family grows, parents face more responsibilities.
Family planning helps couples decide on the number of
children to have and to properly space their births in
consideration of maternal and reproductive health as well as
financial and other family resources.
Family planning are classified into two: natural and
artificial.

Artificial family planning methods make use of tools, medical

procedure, or surgery to control pregnancy.

Natural family planning does not make use of drugs, tools, and
other medical devices.

It is hinged on tracking the fertility cycle of the woman and timing

several intercourse based on this.

A. Natural Family Planning

• One method of family planning is birth control. The most
effective and easiest natural birth control method is abstinence.

Abstinence means not having sexual intercourse.

• Withdrawal is also an example of a birth control method. It is

when during sexual intercourse, the man pulls out his penis
from the vagina before releasing the semen.
• Couples may properly plan pregnancy by monitoring the
menstrual cycle of the woman. This is called the calendar
method. This will inform the couples on the period when the
women is fertile or not.

• Couples may choose to space pregnancy every three years. This

will enable the woman’s body to fully recover from previous
birth. According to studies , three years is also enough to collect ,
save and prepare resources for the next pregnancy

B. Artificial Family Planning

• An example of a birth control method is the use of materials such

as condoms and intrauterine devices
( IUD ) and diaphragms. These are instruments used to
prevent the sperm from reaching the ovum.

• The woman may take birth control pills to regulate the hormones
and alter the menstrual cycle.

• Couples may choose to undergo sterilization procedures to

permanently lose the capability to reproduce. Females may
undergo tubal ligation to block the fallopian tube. Males may
undergo vasectomy to cut off and tie the vas deferens.

Family planning affects the decision of the parents

about family size. If the parents are not able to support
the needs and demands of their children, the health of
the family will be at risk. If undernourished,
unprotected , and unsecured children may become
weak and prone to sickness.

The family size does not affect the parents and children. In a
bigger picture, it also has an effect on the health of the nation.
As a family size increases, the population grows as well.
There are currently more than 100 million Filipinos.

The number is considered as a sign of overpopulation. Too many

people living in a small place and competing for limited
resources the incidents of poverty.

Poverty will prevent them from getting sufficient nutrition,
