THE CHANGING

SEASONS
INTRODUCTION
⬩ Environment changes slowly and steadily.

⬩ Why? Due to the things we do.

⬩ Every year, regular changes takes place to the earth

because of the changing seasons.

2
WHAT ARE THE SEASONS?
⬩ A season = a time of the year when you can expect a
special type of weather.

⬩ Northern Europe and New Zealand = hotter in

summer, colder in winter.

⬩ It rains almost anytime.

3
⬩ Places which are closer to the north and south of the
Equator, have all four seasons, namely summer,
winter, spring and autumn.

⬩ The changing seasons affect the way people live.

⬩ It also affects the crops.

⬩ It also affect the clothes we wear and places we

⬩ visit.
4

⬩ Near the Equator is it nearly always hot, although
there are dry and rainy seasons in some areas.

THE
TILTE
D
EARTH

7
⬩ Not only does the Earth revolve around the Sun
every year, but the Earth rotates on its axis every 24
hours.

⬩ This is what we call a day.

⬩ However, the Earth doesn't rotate in a straight up and

down manner relative to the Sun.

8
⬩ It is slightly tilted.

⬩ In scientific terms, the Earth is tilted 23.5 degrees from its orbital
plane with the Sun.

9
THE TILTED EARTH
⬩ We have seasons because the Earth moves around the Sun.

⬩ It makes one complete journey around the Sun every year.

⬩ The Earth is slightly tilted and so the weather us different at

different times of the year.

10
⬩ In autumn the amount of time it is light becomes less, the leaves
start to change colour and fall off the trees. Autumn is called Fall in
the United States of America.

⬩ In winter we have colder weather, sometimes snow and frost, the

trees have no leaves and the amount of time it is light during the day
is at its shortest.

11
⬩ In spring the weather usually turns warmer, trees begin to grow
their leaves, plants start to flower and young animals such as chicks
and lambs are born.

⬩ In summer the weather is usually warm, trees have full green

leaves and the amount of time is it light for during the day is
longer.
