Depending upon the methods of providing rotating magnetic field at start, the
1-phase induction motors are of the following types: 
 Split phase induction motor
 Capacitor type single phase induction motor 
 Shaded pole motor

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages Disadvantages
 Construction is quite simple in nature. does not have a self starting
 The cost of the motor is quite low. torque
 Can also be operated in hazardous Speed control of an induction
conditions motor is very difficult.
 High starting torque, good speed reduction in voltage
regulation and reasonable overload cannot be used for applications
 Full load efficiency varying from 85 which require high starting torque
to 97 percent.
