INTRODUCTION
 Fashion differs from one culture to the next and
from one country to the next. It is a concept that is
most closely linked to the craft of clothes and
accessories. In its true meaning, it is a continual
process of style changes in every area, including
clothing, accessories, bags, professions, furniture,
and furnishings.
WHY DOES FASHION CHANGE
 Fashion change because people change.
 We always want something new. Clothing change
for practicable reasons, for appropriateness for the
season and for adaptation to environment
situations. In some cases the popularity of fashion
endure for many seasons because of the
combinations of these reasons.

 Haute couture
 Ready to wear
KINDS OF FASHION
 Haute couture: French word meaning high fashion.
It means one-of-a-kind. These include designer’s
original designers or clothing that are custom
made.
 Ready to wear: Pret-a-Porte term used to describe
mass product garments. These include designer’s
originals manufactured to a certain number for
department stores and offered at lower prices.
FASHION IN INDIA
 Each region's race, geography, environment, and
cultural customs all influence how people dress in
India. Male and female apparel has developed over
time from plain body-covering garments such as
the kaupina, langota, salwaar kameez, lungi, sari,
gamcha, and loincloths to intricate costumes.
Western clothing is typical and uniformly worn by
citizens of all social classes in urban areas.
FASHION IN PUNJAB
 Cotton clothing was worn in the ancient Punjab
region. Both sex had tops that hung down to their
elbows. Over the tops, a blanket was worn,
wrapped over the left shoulder and under the right.
A big sheet will then be stretched over one leg,
dangling loosely towards the ankles.
