something more meaningful to do. Other
students decide to go to university. Although
these students all think that it is worth spending
the next four years in classrooms, the reasons
why they think so might be different. Students go
to university for a variety of reasons: academic

Introduction
A person in the twenty first century has seen a
lot of changes take place in almost all areas of
human life. Some people are excited by the
challenges that these changes offer; others want
to return to simpler, less automated life style of
the past. Living in the twenty first century has
certain advantages, such as higher standard of
living, but it also has some disadvantages, such
as a polluted environment, the depersonalization
of human relationships, and the weakening of
spiritual values.

My interest in international relations and
politics emerges from observation of daily
life and the events shaping our history. I
have realized that no nation in today’s
world lives in a vacuum of safety and
comfort. This has led to my interest in
history expanding into a passion for
international relations and politics.

In conclusion, although the twenty first century has given
a lot of advantages by making people richer, healthier,
freer to enjoy their lives, it has, in my opinion, not made
them wiser. It has made Earth dirtier, people less
humane, and spiritual lives poorer. People should
continue to enjoy the benefits of technological
advancements because they free them to pursue
interests and goals. However, they must make a
concerted effort to preserve natural environment for
future generations. Moreover, they should take the time
now to make their lives more meaningful in an
increasingly impersonal, mechanized world.

Sample paragraph
Gold, a precious metal, is prized for two important
characteristics. First of all, gold has a lustrous beauty
that is resistant to corrosion. Therefore, it is suitable for
jewelry, coins and ornamental purposes. Gold never
needs to be polished and will remain beautiful forever.
For example, a Macedonian coin remains as untarnished
today as the day it was made 25 centuries ago. Another
important characteristic of gold is its usefulness to
industry and science. For many years, it has been used
in hundreds of industrial applications, such as
photography and dentistry. The most recent use of gold
is in astronauts’ suits. Astronauts wear gold-plated heat
shields for protection when they go outside spaceships in
space. Thus, gold is treasured not only for its beauty
but also for its utility.
