Definition of terms

Migration - The process of moving from a place of origin to a different location.

Rural to Urban Migration - Moving from one region to another in the same country.

Immigration - Refers to the process of moving into a foreign country.

Global Migration - A situation in which people go to live in foreign countries.


Most global migration is from developing countries to developed ones.

Global Migrants are also identified as International Migrants.

They are further classified as either Emigrates or Immigrants.

• Emigrates - Refers to individuals that leave their native country.

• Immigrants - Are non-citizen individuals that are in a foreign country.

• And once employed, these individuals would be able to utilize their


knowledge and skills to contribute to the overall growth, development
and innovation of the global economy.
