What are Hallucinogens?

 A hallucinogen is a psychoactive agent which can cause hallucinations, perception

anomalies, and other substantial subjective changes in thoughts, emotion, and
consciousness.
Hallucinogen History

 Interest in the hallucinogenic drug developed slowly. Mescaline a neurologist wrote

about his experience with peyote before the turn of the 20th century.

 Flashbacks weeks, months, or even years after the drug use
 Impaired memory and concentration
 Possible severe mental disturbances
 Prolonged depression
 Bad trips may last hours, weeks, and even months
Types of Hallucinogens/Cost

 “Magic” Mushrooms- $25 per 3.5 grams

 LSD- $10 per hit (each hit generally contains 75 micrograms)
 Peyote- $4-$8 per button
 Marijuana- $10 per gram
Where are They Found

 Magic Mushrooms- Central America

 LSD- found in illegal LSD labs
 Peyote- southern Texas and northern Mexico
 Marijuana- found basically everywhere in the United States

 LSD- Found in ergot fungus that grows on rye and grains
 Peyote- Top of a spineless cactus, mixed with mescaline
 Marijuana- Made from the leaves and flower tops of the plant Cannabis sativa
