02 Paraphrasing Techniques
What is Paraphrasing?

Paraphrasing means restating the ideas of an author

using your own words while keeping the length and
meaning same.

Paraphrasing should be used most frequently to avoid

plagiarism.
Paraphrased citations always acknowledge the original author.

Paraphrasing is done using three techniques:

• using synonyms
• using a different word class of the key words
• changing the structure of the original sentence.
Example:
Original text: Education is the key to success.

Technique 1: Knowledge is important for prosperity.

Technique 2: Education is important for being successful.
Technique 3: To succeed in life, you need education.

All 3 techniques: To be successful in life, you need to gain

knowledge.
