INTRODUCTION

• An Industrial Warehouse is a structure that provides the proper environment to store the goods such

as raw materials and heavy machineries.

• The exterior and interior views of the industrial warehouse are shown below

Fig. 1 Exterior view of Warehouse Fig. 2 Interior view of ware house

Conventional steel building:

• Conventional steel building is a low rise steel structure with roofing systems of
truss with coverings.
• Conventional construction is ideal for complex designs and also it provides more
flexible options.
• However, This method has higher labour costs, takes longer time, and produces a
lot of construction site.

Pre-engineered buildings:
• Pre-engineered steel buildings are constructed using steel built up sections which are
predesigned and fabricated in the factory and assembled at the site of construction.

Advantages of Pre-engineered buildings:

• Reduces construction time

• Lower cost and maintenance
• Flexibility of expansion
• Energy efficient roofing and wall systems
• Architectural versality
• Single source responsibility

REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Author Summary

C.M Meera (2013) Analyzed and designed an industrial warehouse using STAAD
Pro. This paper gives a comparative study of Pre-Engineered
Building concept and conventional steel building concept.

OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE

Objective:

The main objective of this project is to plan, analyse and design of a two storey Industrial
Warehouse using conventional steel building and Pre-engineered building concepts.

Scope:
• Plan a two-storey Industrial Warehouse.
• Develop the plan for warehouse with desired specifications using AUTOCAD.
• Analysis and design of warehouse with hot rolled steel sections (angle, tubular
sections) and PEB sections using STAAD Pro software.
• Carryout a comparative study to obtain the economical design.
ANALYSIS OF WAREHOUSE

A typical frame of a proposed industrial steel warehouse building is

analysing and designing by taking following concepts:

1. Analysis and Design of a conventional steel building with angle sections

2. Analysis and Design of a conventional steel building with tubular sections

3. Analysis and Design of a Pre-engineered building

• In this project, Analysis and Design of warehouse has been carried out using STAAD-Pro
software.
• Loads considered for analysis:
• The following loads are considered applied on rafters
1. Dead load:
The following dead loads are considered according to IS 875-1987- part -I
Self weight of GI sheet = 0.115kN/m2
Purlins = 0.07kN/m2
Bracings = 0.1kN/m2
Services and fixtures = 0.025 and 0.1 kN/m2
Total load = 2.46 kN/m
2. Live load:
The live loads has been considered according to IS 875-1987 Part-II as 0.75kN/m 2
Total load = 4.5 kN/m
3. Snow load:
According to IS 875-1987 Part-IV, the shape coefficient and ground snow load are
considered as
Shape coefficient = 0.8
Ground snow load = 4.08 kN/m2
Total load = 19.56 kN/m
4. Wind load:
According to IS 875-2015(revised) Part-III, The Basic design wind speed for the selected
location is obtained as 39 m/s

Load Case Left (kN/m) Right (kN/m)

θ = 0+ 0.992 -1.116
θ = 90+ 0.264 -0.264
θ = 0- 3.632 3.765
θ = 90- 2.90 2.904

Load combinations:
1. 1.5(DL+LL)
2. 1.2(DL+LL+WLLR)
3. 1.2(DL+LL+WLRL)
