Abstract: In India, due to rapid growth of industrialization, there arise a need of storage and manufacturing
of goods which can be fulfilled by proper designed industrial warehouse. This study gives an idea to carry
out the design of an industrial warehouse. This structure is proposed to design according to IS 800:2007 and
the dead, live, wind load analysis is done according to IS 875:1987. The area for proposed warehouse design
was decided and proper architectural plan was prepared according to the requirements. The forces acting on
the adjacent members when one of the members is under loading and calculating the excess stresses and
ratios induces in these connected members and also, the moments and forces produces are obtained and
mentioned. Then different members of warehouse for e.g. Truss members, columns and connections, etc.
were designed and final result are obtained. Finally, conclusion is made that warehouse can be designed
easily adopting simple design procedure and IS specifications.

1. INTRODUCTION

During the industrial revolution, the function of warehouses evolved and became more specialized.
The warehouse, which is meant for storing, lifting, protection of goods, importers, exporters and materials is
known as Industrial warehouse. Industrial warehouses are usually single Storey steel structure. Steel
material which has high strength per unit mass. The enclosures of these structures may be brick masonry,
concrete walls or GI sheet covering. Walls are sufficiently strong enough to withstand lateral forces caused
by wind or earthquake. Strength-to-weight ratio than RCC and they also can be easily dismantled. These
steel structures are connected with bolted connections and hence can be reused after dismantling. And can
be shifted as expanded as per the requirements in future. A combination of standard hot-rolled sections,
cold-formed sections, profiled sheets, steel rods etc. are used for the construction of industrial steel structure.
By constructing the warehouses at the industrial site there will be no theft and it is the protection from the
environmental factors while we are designing for the industrial warehouse. Industrial buildings may be
categorized as normal type industrial buildings and special type industrial buildings. Normal types of
industrial buildings are shed type buildings with simple roof structures on open frames. These buildings are
used for workshop, warehouses etc. These buildings require large and clear areas unobstructed by the
columns.
2. LITERATURE REVIEW

1. Swapnil D. Bokade, Laxmikant Vairagade in 2013,Steel Truss Buildings employing pipe section
and PEB are shown to be more cost effective than Steel Truss Buildings using angle section, as seen
by the design. When compared to PEB, the Industrial Steel Truss Building is more cost effective due
to good material selection. Design of warehouse and PEB for Multistory Buildings can be studied in
the future. The crane load can be considered in the design of industrial buildings and PEBs.
2. Anisha T. Goswami, Shalaka Sharma in 2013 , PEB is being used more frequently as a result of
earlier advancements, although its use is not uniform across the building industry. In comparison to
conventional-to-conventional buildings, PEB structures may be simply created using simple design
techniques in accordance with country norms, are energy efficient, quick to construct, save money,
are sustainable, and most importantly, are reliable.

3. OBJECTIVES OF STUDY

1. To design industrial warehouse as per IS code.

2. To identify various loads acting on the structures.
3. To determine the insatiability behavior of steel members using STAAD PRO.
4. To provide appropriate section using software analysis.

4. METHODOLOGY

4.1 PLANNING AND DETAILING

In this project work, Auto CAD and Staad Pro software is being used in order to analyze and design
Industrial warehouse as per the plan. It gives the bending moment, shear forces. The procedure includes
modelling the structure, applying properties, specification, loads and load combinations, analyzing and
designing the structure. This software is an effective and user-friendly tool for three-dimensional model
generation.

4.2 MODELLING

Warehouse modelling is the process of designing the schemas of the detailed and summarized
information of the warehouse The modelling of warehouse is done by the following procedure:

1. The sections we used for the warehouses are the steel I sections.

2. The section for Column is used in the warehouse design is the ISHB 350@72.4kg/m Details: Area-
9221sqr mm, h-350mm, b-250mm, tf-11.6mm, tw-10.1mm, rxx-146.5mm, ryy-52.2mm

3. The section for Beam (Rafter) is used in warehouse design is ISMB 350@52.4kg/m Details: Area-
6671sqr mm, h-350mm, b-140mm, tf-14.2mm, tw-8.1mm, rxx-142.9mm, ryy-28.4mm
4. The Angle section ISA90x90x8mm is used for Purlins in the warehouse. Details: Area-1379sqr mm,
weight-10.8kg/m, t-8mm, rxx = ryy-27.5mm. First, we prepare the model by adding nodes and beams with
our required dimension & with required shape in all the three directions i.e. X, Y & Z by using respective
commands. Below figures represent skeleton and 3D view.

Fig 4.3 Skeleton Diagram of warehouse Fig 4.4 Assigned supports

5.Next, we assign the supports for each column of required dimensions by using support command. A fixed
type of support will be assigned. Below figure shows assigned fixed supports for the warehouse.

6. And then we assign the properties by using properties command for each member of warehouse i.e.
column, beam & purlins as ISHB 350, ISMB 350 and ISA 90x90x8mm respectively.

 R1 represents property assigned for columns i.e. ISHB 350

 R2 represents property assigned for beams(rafters) i.e. ISMB 350
 R3 represents property assigned for purlins i.e. ISA90x90x8mm

7. After assigning the properties of each members, 3D view of the warehouse is observed using 3D Render
view command. Here we can see the actual shape of I sections used for Columns, Rafters and even angle
section shape used for Purlins in partial realistically and modelling of warehouse will done.

4.3 ANALYSING

1. For the analysis firstly loads need to be assigned for each members.

2. By using the load and definition command we can assign the loads respectively.

3. In load and definition command select the load case details in that choose type of load i.e. Dead load with
followed by self-weight and member load followed by uniformly distributed load will be standard.

4. Next click on add further to assign them.

5. And them assign one by one loads for the model prepared separately.

6. Below figure shows loads assigned to the model prepared.

Fig 4.7 Assigned loads

7. Next perform analysis and run the analysis and check the procedure made to achieve 0 Error, 0 Warning
and 0 Note. If this is achieved then the analysis is accurate and fine. PERFORM ANALYSIS PRINT ALL,

8. After these all steps the final step is to gain Bending moment and Shear force of the designed Industrial
warehouse. Click on the result command present in the toolbar i.e. RESULT VIEW VALUE BEAM

4.4 RESULTS

CONCLUSION

Design and Analysis of Industrial warehouse can be easily done by the Staad pro software. The
entire process was completed as per the standard laid down by the Indian standards. In this work, Analysis
and design of Industrial warehouse using STADD PRO. According to the results obtained from the analysis
of these structures in which steel sections were assigned to the various warehouse models for every member.
AUTOCAD plan was prepared followed by load calculations. Based on which different members like truss
members, columns, purlins, etc. were selected. Steel quantity depends on primary members and purlins. As
spacing of frame is increased steel consumption decreased for primary members and increased for secondary
members. The entire process was completed as per the standards laid down by Indian standard. The
industrial warehouse can be easily designed by simple design procedure.
