WHAT IS FRICTION ?

. The force that opposes the motion is called Friction.

. Friction is produced when two surfaces rub against each other .
. Frictional is produced when two surfaces rub against each other.
. Frictional force always acts in the opposite direction to motion of an object.

Advantages and disadvantages of friction
 Advantages of frictional force
1. friction is very important in our everyday life
2. many things cannot be done without friction
Disadvantages of frictional force.
Way to increase the frictional force
1. the main purpose of increase friction on surfaces is to provide
a better grip to prevent slipping.
2. Friction can be increased by using rough and dry surface.
Hots – answer the question
Way to decrease the frictional force
1. Friction can be reduced by using rollers, marbles. Wheels and ball bearings
2. Another way to reduce friction is by lubricating the surfaces with lubricants such as
oil , grease or talcum powder
3. Friction can also be reduced by polishing and waxing the surfaces to make
them smooth

4. Air cushion and aerodynamic shape also can reduce friction.
