ABSTRACT
Wireless Sensor Networks are being gradually introduced in
different scenarios . ZigBee is on of the the most widely used
transceiver standard in wireless sensor networks.ZigBee is a
specification protocols use to create personal area network built
from small,low-power digital radios.ZigBee devices can transmit
data over a long distances by passing data through mesh network
of intermediate devices to reach more instant ones.
INTRODUCTION

 Technological standard created for control and sensor networks.

 Based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. It can provide the wireless personal
area network.

 ZigBee specification is to be simpler and less expensive compare with the

other WPAN’s such As Bluetooth.

 Designed for low power consumption allowing batteries to essentially last

for ever.

 Created by ZigBee Alliance.

Introduction To ZigBee

 An IEEE 802.15.4-based specification for a suite of high-level communication

protocols use to create Personal area networks, which need wireless connection.

 Was conceived in 1998,standardized in 2003,and revised in 2006.

 Low power consumption limits transmission distances to 10-100 meters line-of-sight

depending on power output and environmental characteristics.

What is ZigBee?
• A wireless technological device which is popular for extremely low power, and
low bit rate WPAN technology called ”ZigBee”.
• for erratic,zig-zagging patterns of bees between flowers.Named
• Symbolizes communication between nodes in a mesh network.
• Designed for
• -Wireless automation
• -lower data tasks
• ZigBee enables new opportunities for wireless sensors and control
networks,zigBee is standard based.
• Used globally,reliable and self healing,support large of nodes,easy to deploy,very
long battery life and secure.
General Characteristics

 Low battery consumption.

 Low cost.
 Low date rate.
 Easy to implement.
 Supports up to 65,000 nodes connected in a network.
 Can automatically establish its own network.
 Uses small packets compared to wifi and bluetooth.

Types of ZigBee
Devices

• Coordinator
• Routers
• End Devices

10
•Coordinator
• Most capable device
• Root of the network
• One coordinator in each network

Task:
• Channel selection
• Assign an ID to the network
• Allocates Unique address to each device
• Initiates and transfers messages in the network

11
• Routers

• Act as intermediate nodes between the coordinator and

the end devices.
• Route traffic between different nodes.
• Receive an store messages intended for their children.
• Can allow other routers and end devices to join the
network

12
•End Device
• Contains just enough information to talk to the parent node.
• They may sleep(a standby),which makes end devices a suitable
choice for battery operated devices.
• All traffic to and end device is first routed to its parent.
• The end device is responsible for requesting any pending
messages from its parent.
