Les verbes pronominaux (pronominal /reflexive verbs)

• Remember most of the reflexive verbs end in ‘er’ and we follow the
same method which is meant for conjugating the verbs in ‘er’.
• The only difference between reflexive & non-reflexive verbs is that
reflexive verbs require reflexive pronouns- me, te, se to be placed
after the subject pronoun.
• Me, te, se are shortened to m’,t’,s’, if the reflexive begins with a
vowel ex: s’habiller, s’appeler etc.
• Few commonly used proniminal verbs are- se lever (to get up), se
laver(to wash), se reveiller(to wake up), s’appeler (to call),
• s’asseoir (to sit), s’approcher de (to approach), se brosser (to
brush), se baigner (to bath), se doucher (to take a shower), se
facher (to get angry), se peigner (to comb), se raser (to shave)
Verbes ending in ‘RE’ & Contracted Articles (to the/at the &
of the/from the)

• Verbs ending in RE are conjugated by removing the ‘re’ from the

verb and add the endings- s, s, __ __, ons, ez, ent, ent
• Verb- Répondre (to reply): Je reponds, tu reponds, il/elle repond,
nous repondons, vous repondez, ils/elles repondent.
• Few more regular RE ending verbs are- vendre, attendre, entendre,
rendre, descendre, pretendre (to pretend), ascendre (to ascend)
• Contracted articles are of two types- with preposition ‘à’ and with
preposition ‘de’.
• With ‘à the articles are- au à la, à l’, aux. In English they mean ( to
the/ at the). And with de they are- du de la del’, des. In English they
mean (of the/ from the)They all change as per the gender of the

definite article. There are four partitive articles- du (m), de la (f), del’
(before a vowel), des (pl).
• They are frequently used before a singular noun that represents
something that can divided into smaller parts like liquids, food etc.
• The English meaning of partitive articles is- some.
• These articles usually indicates an undetermined quantity. It is use
after verbs expressing possession or consumption.
• Few verbs after which partitive articles are used are- manger, boire,
