Impact of Slow Internet Connection

To the Academic Performance

of Students during New
Normal
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Access to the Internet has become a sore spot
for the Philippines lately. Filipinos need Internet
connectivity more than ever as most
professionals are now working from home and
as students start taking their classes online or
modular. However, the Internet in the
Philippines remains unreliable. Not having
internet connection can mean missing out an
information or losing out on a direct line of
communication with school performance.
Internet problem is not just a problem in
the Philippines but its also a problem
globally. Its an indeed a problem. This
research aims to measure the impact of
slow internet connection to the academic
performance of students during new
normal learning. This research is
conducted to know how the slow internet
connection affect the performance of
every students.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
1. What are the perceptions of the students in Slow
Internet?
2. What are the cause of Slow Internet Connection?
3. What is the purpose of using Internet connection?
4.How does the slow internet connection affects
academic performance of the students?
5. What are the challenges faced by the students
when they having a poor connection in Internet while
doing online class/ modular learning ?
SCOPE, DELIMITATION AND THE
LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
This study was conducted to identify the impact
of slow internet connection to the academic
performance of students during new normal.
 This research is applicable to 30 students that
take online class who lived in Brgy. Latag,
Nasugbu, Batangas that has a slow internet
connection.
 This is not applicable to the students who
didn’t lived to the area that has a slow internet
connection and not taking online class.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

To the School

To the Teachers
To the Parents
To the Students
To the Future Researchers
CHAPTER II
SYNTHESIS
According to Anna Mckie (2020) and Lynch (2017), a
slow internet access had hampered their learning and they
cant complete their activities in school and having slow
internet connection have negative impacts on academic
performance of students. It is similar to the present study
because it tackles about to the impact of slow internet
connection to the academic performance of students who
lived in Brgy. Latag Nasugbu, Batangas.
Lynch (2017) concept is similar to the present study as it
tackles about slow internet connection at home can
contribute a falling grades on their academic performance
in school.
According to the past study of Aluja and Blanch (2004) that
learners need a skills that enable to access, record and use
strategies for essential learning. It is similar to the study of
Suhail and Bargees (2020) that skills are needed to communicate
with classmates and professor and to improve their study habits.
Like in the present study it also tackles what are the some
strategies and what are the purpose of using internet.

The study of Agil and Ahmad (2011) about internet is the

transport vehicle for the information through stored files and
documents that have a vital role in research and learning process
in academic institutions and the study of Michigan State
University (2020) said that students depend on the internet for
their first access to get some information about to their learning.
This research is conducted in abroad while the present study
conducted inside in the country.

RESEARCH DESIGN
The researchers use qualitative research
design , specifically Purposive sampling was
utilized for the study to investigate Impact of
slow internet connection to the academic
performance of students during new normal
learning.

Survey questionnaire is used to obtain data to

enable the researcher test the answer research
questions with regards to the status of the
subjects under investigation.
SUBJECT OF THE STUDY
The sample of the study consist of 30
students who lived in Latag, Nasugbu,
Batangas. Purposive sampling technique
are used because the researchers noticed
that in Barangay Latag has a slow internet
connection.
DATA GATHERING TOOL
Questionnaire. The researchers used questionnaire
as the data gathering instrument.
Construction of Questionnaire. Before
constructing the questionnaire, the researchers
consulted several references and published materials.
Validation of Questionnaire. For the validation the
researchers prepared the first draft of the questions.
Construction, reconstruction and validation of the
questionnaire was made possible through the help of
the research teacher.
Administration of Questionnaire. After
Validation of questionnaire , the researchers
asked permission to the head to administer the
questionnaire through a formal letter of request.
Scoring of Response. The gathered data for the
questionnaire were interpreted in terms of criteria
based on the following scale:

Option Scale Verbal Interpretation

4 3.5 – 4.0 Strongly Agree
3 2.5 – 3.49 Agree
2 1.5 – 2.49 Disagree
1 1.0 – 1.49 Strongly Disagree
Data Gathering Procedure
 The procedure in gathering data
started with the preparation of the
survey questionnaire. The researchers
moved on to data gathering. The
researchers requested to give them few
minutes to distribute and administer the
questionnaires through online.
Statistical Treatment of the Data
 The data obtained were tallied, analyzed
and interpreted with the use of the
following statistical tool.

Weighted Mean - This statistical

treatment of the data was used in
determining the average responses of the
respondent. This was based on the
formula:
Summary of Findings
1. Perception of Students in Slow Internet
The respondents perceive slow internet connection
as a main problem of
teachers and students and it is the difficulty to
communicate to the teachers and
affects the academic performance in online class.
2. The Causes of using Internet Connection
The study reveals that the causes of slow internet
connection are commonly because of the location
and the slow signal strength of the respondents
cable.
3. The Purpose of Using Internet Connection
The study reveals that the purpose using internet
connection is a source of information for
learning and research and it makes researching
and communication easier.
4. Effects of Slow Internet Connection
The findings shows that the effects of slow
internet connection are loss of social connection
and motivation and the respondents are having
hard time understanding the lesson.
Conclusions
1. Students has different perception in
having slow internet connection.
2. The cause of slow internet connection is
the location of the students.
3. students used internet connection as a
way to gather information.
4. Slow internet connection affects the
students in studying.
Recommendations
The researchers recommend/ed regarding to
the impact of slow internet connection to the
academic performance of students during new
normal learning to the students, teachers and
future researchers are the following:

For the students, find a place where the signal

or internet is fixed or stable, for them to easily
cope up regarding to online learning.
For the teachers, give the students enough
time to submit their school requirements
because not all students have an access in
internet and they couldn’t afford to buy
load due to financial problems and need.

For the future researchers, they can have

an idea through this research for their
future research.
