Past activities (Positives)
The second engineer took responsible for auxiliaries
engine.
The engineers took responsible for auxiliaries engine.
I cleaned my teeth last night.
The Oiler cleaned the engine yesterday.

• Subject: I ,You ,We ,They, He, She, It

• Positive: Subject +Verb II + O
• Negative: Subject + did not+Verb 1 + O
• Interogative: Did+ Subject+Verb 1 +O?
 Example Simple Past
 Positive:
The Chief Engineer broke the window.
 Negative:
The Chief Engineer did not break the window.
 Interogative:
Did the Chief Engineer break the window?

Something happed in the past but spoken is still going on

The Difference between the simple past and the past continuous
is for the duration of the activities.
The Past continuous is longer than Simple Past.
