EFFECTS OF COVID-19 IN THE EMPLOYEE PERFORMNACE OF DRGMNHS, CCHS AND STNHS
COVID-19 crisis has implied significant changes
in most workplace environments. It has pushed
almost all the employees around the world to
work in a completely different setting in
comparison to what it used to be before. COVID-
19 triggered interventions such as social
distancing, travel restrictions, virtual or remote
work, and skeleton crews have constrained the
continuance of earlier processes, thereby
changing the way employees work (Gallup, 2020
; Tortorella et al., 2020a).

Education institutions in the Philippines are
no exception to the changes brought by
COVID-19 pandemic due to the sudden shift of
the education system to distance learning.
Employees’ routine activities and the way
service organizations work have changed. In
addition, the absorption of COVID-19 triggered
interventions by the organizations to contain
its impact on the performance of employees.
However, the direction of this impact is
unclear, as arguments exist for both negative
and positive directions.

Increased stress, inadequate infrastructure, missing
work environment/colleagues, unrealistic performance
expectations, impaired manager-employee relationship,
and difficulty establishing trust with colleagues are the
downside of virtual work environment (Graves and
Karabayeva, 2020), which can negatively impact on
employees’ performance. Caputo and Hyland (2020),
through a focus group conducted with a sample of 256
employees (mostly from U.S. firm), indicated that four out
of ten respondents felt that the pandemic would reduce
cross-functional collaboration, and 36% of the
respondents worried about how remote work would
impact their work-life balance.

Moreover, the school closure which is meant
to minimize the spread of COVID-19
pandemic has impacted learners and school
employees alike. With this claim, the
Department of Education (DepEd) is
addressing the challenges in the basic
education for the school year 2020-2021
through its Basic Education Learning
Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) under DepEd
Order No. 012, s. 2020.

Part I. This part focused on the profile of the respondents.
This is to gather data on the socio-demographic
characteristics of the respondents in terms of age, sex,
highest educational attainment, and position.
Part II. This another part of the instrument was used to
assess the effects of COVID-19 to the employee performance
as perceived by the respondents. This instrument was
developed by the researcher and subjected to content
validity.

The evidence for the job characteristics theory of work
attitudes and performance (Hackman & Oldham, 1975, 1980)
was reviewed. This theory states that employee job
satisfaction, intrinsic work motivation, and productivity are a
function of the characteristics of a job. The central
characteristics are skill-variety, task identity, task significance,
autonomy, and feedback. The theory also states that
employee attitudes and performance are moderated by the
employee's need for psychological growth. Employees with
low growth need strength are less responsive to job
characteristics than employees with high growth need
strength. Results obtained from studies designed to test the
theory showed that the propositions related to job
satisfaction and intrinsic motivation were weakly supported.  12

PERFORMNACE
The study aims to analyze the impact of
Covid 19 to the employee performance of
selected faculty and staff of DRGMNHS, CCHS
AND STNHS. Specifically, it seeks answer to the
following:

1. What is the profile of the respondents in

terms of the following ?
a. Age c. Educational Attainment
b. Sex d. Position

2. What is the impact of Covid 19 to the
employee’s performance
3. What is the level of performance of the
selected Deped Teachers?
4. How does the performance of the faculty and
staff affects the productivity of the employees?
5. How does the adjustment / adoptability to the
current situation affects the work performance?
6. What intervention can be use to improve
employee’s performance during covid 19?

This study aimed to:
1. Find out the profile of the respondents along age, sex, highest
educational attainment and position.
2. Determine the relationship between the profile of the
respondents and the employee performance of the DRGMNHS,
CCHS and STNHS.
3. Discover the problems brought by COVID-19 to the employee
performance of the selected employees of DRGMNHS, CCHS,
and STHNHS.
4. Determine the effects of COVID-19 to the employee performance
of the selected employees of DRGMNHS, CCHS, and STHNHS.

Research Design
The descriptive correlation research design was used in this study to find

out the effects of COVID-19 pandemic to the employee performance of the

respondents.
It is descriptive correlational since it involves description, analysis of data
needed to determine the relationships that exist between the variables identified
in the study. This was used because this study mainly investigated the
relationship between the effects of COVID-19 and the employee performance of
the respondents. According to (Kowalczyk, 2015) a descriptive correlation is
simply defined as a relationship between two variables. The whole purpose of
using correlations in research is to figure out which variables are connected.

Sources of Data
There were 30 employees who served as the
respondents of the study. They were selected teaching
and non-teaching staff of Dr. Ricardo Gacula Memorial
National High School, Candon City High School, and Sto.
Thomas National High School.

Data Gathering Procedure
The survey questionnaire will be utilized to gather the pertinent
data needed in the study. The questionnaire was researchers made
and subjected to content validity. The questionnaire was converted
into Google Form.
In the conduct of the study, the researcher administered the
validity test of the researcher-made questionnaire with .94
reliability using Cronbach alpha to selected employees of Candon
City Division . The research-made questionnaire was administered
online by sending Google form to the respondents. The researchers
examined thoroughly the set of questionnaires transpired from the
gathered responses from the Google form.

Treatment of Data
The data gather will be tabulated, organized, computed, analyzed
and interpreted in accordance with the stated objectives of the study.
The statistical tools used were frequency counts, percentages,
average weighted means and simple correlational analysis.
The first and second specific objectives of the study covering the
profile of the respondents made use of frequency, percentage
distribution and simple correlational analysis. The third objective made
use of frequency and weighted mean to look for the problems
encountered in the employee performance of the respondents as well as
the fourth objective to look for the effects of COVID-19 in the employee
performance of the respondents.
