INTRODUCTION
Fear, uncertainty, and being holed up at home
more slowly the spread of COVID-19 can
make tough for families to keep a sense of
calm. But it’s important to help children feel
safe, keep healthy routines, manage their
emotions and behavior and build resilience.
WHAT IS PARENTING?
Parenting is derived from the Latin verb
“parere” which means to bring forth , develop,
or educate.

TIPS TO HELP YOUR
FAMILY GET
THROUGH THE
STRESS OF THE
PANDEMIC
1. ADDRESS CHILDREN’S FEAR
Answer questions about the pandemic simply and honestly
Recognize your child’s feelings
Keep in touch with loved ones
Model how to manage feelings
Tell your child before you leave the house
Look forward
Offer extra hugs and say “ I love you” more often
2.KEEP HEALTHY ROUTINES
Structure the day such as
1. Wake –up routines, getting dressed, breakfast and
some active play in the morning, followed by quiet
play and snack to transition into school work.
2. Lunch, chores, exercise, some online social time with
friends, and then homework in the afternoon.
3. Family time & reading before bed
3.USE POSITIVE DISCIPLINE
Some ways you can help your children manage their emotion
1. Redirect bad behavior
2. Creative play
3. Direct your attention
4. Use reward and privileges
5. Know when not to respond
6. Use time-outs

Parents also be sure to take care of
themselves physically: eat healthy,
exercises and get enough sleep. Find ways
to decompress and take breaks.

In addition to reaching out to others for help, the
parents feeling overwhelmed or especially stressed
try to take few second to ask themselves:
1. Does the problem represent an immediate
danger?
2. How will I feel about this problem tomorrow?
3. Is this situation permanent?
WAYS FORWARD
Covid-19 is a massive problem around the globe it is a challenging
time for children and parents. However, parents have significant
role to play that succor children’s mental well-being and healthy
development. Positive parenting could assist children to oversee
the impact of this pandemic by fostering resilience. It can be also
ensure better development outcomes in behavior, intellectual, and
social skills. This is a difficult time for all with no easy answers
but some of these simple tips may benefit children and parents.
