Goals
• All individuals in this world are purposeful.
• Organization goals should be compatible with individual goals.
• Individuals pay their physical and mental efforts to achieve one or more specified
goals.
• Why do we need to study individual goals?
They are useful for two purposes: First, to provide useful tools to manage
motivation. Second, to use them as controlling mechanism for managing work in the
organization.
Beliefs
• Be + Lies +Ifs
• Beliefs are cognitions, or thoughts, about the characteristics of objects.
• Krech and Crutchfied define belief “as an enduring organization of
perceptions and cognition about some aspect of the individual world.
• Example :
We assume that Sun rises in the east and sets in the west. But this is just our
belief. In reality the sun neither rises or set, it is our Earth that is rotating.

people and events.”

“ Attitudes are learned predisposition of the individuals towards aspects of
our environment. They can be positively or negatively directed towards
certain people, service or institution.”
Components of attitude
Affective: the feelings,
sentiments, moods, and emotions
about person, idea, event, or
object.
Components of
Stimulus Attitude Cognitive: the beliefs, opinions,
knowledge, or information held
by the individual

Behavioral: the predisposition to


act on the favorable or
unfavorable evaluation of
something
Job related attitudes
1. Job satisfaction : Job satisfaction refers to an individual’s favorable or
positive emotional state towards his or her job. ( Dimensions of job: Pay,
the work itself, promotion opportunities, supervision and coworkers )
2. Job involvement : It is the degree to which a person identifies with his or
her job, actively participates in it and considers his or her performance
importance to self worth.
3. Job commitment : It indicates an employee’s attitude towards loyalty to
their working organization.
